Our matriarch has gone…

I’m sorry to say that my step-grandmother has passed away this morning. She was 87, had a full life, raised 3 generations the number of which easily exceed 100 children. She was and will be forever remembered as the matriarch of our family.

May her soul rest in peace.

Sorry to hear that. It sounds like she had a rich full life and you can take comfort in that.

It is sad to lose someone. When my mother passes (she is 88 now), I will try to remember mostly the good she has done, and stand in awe of the changes she saw during her life. When she was born, women had just gotten the vote in the US! She was in her thirties before it was accepted (out of necessity) that women could work in factories! The first all-metal airplanes, jets, computers, televisions, home refrigerators, movies with sound – she saw the beginning of all these and thousands of other things, both good and bad.

So sorry to hear your sad news. You really come to think of your elders as immortal. It’s a bit unbelievable when they pass on. I hope she left you many happy memories you can savor.

thank you all once again for your condolances and support.. tomorrow is the last day of our family’s mourning, but will most definitely be the last of us all fondly remembering her.

I am sorry that I could not respond to some of the posts here for the time being, just about the only connection I can get is to steal a minute or two to check in once in a while on my mobile phone, but even then, with the hundreds of visitors we have had throughout the day for the last two days, I couldn’t even concentrate.

Be with you all again in a couple of days.

    Peace.

May peace be upon her, and you and yours. I found that when friends and family pass away, it leaves a hole in my life. Even the memory of what they looked like can begin to fade (thanks God for photography!). But, eventually, the hole begins to fill, almost mystically, with unbidden memories of the person, places and times you spend with them. That tilt of the head when my mother smiled at a joke; the jaunty walk of my friend killed by a drunk driver years ago in high school; the way my maternal grandmother sat after meal, smoking a cigarette, contemplating something; how my co-worker, who just died at 45 of a heart attack, would see me from his office and give me a little smile and a salute. Yet, when I try to recall things, they flit in and out. Unbidden memories of friends and family – a gift of the subconscious.
