This is why the whole mannequin issue is pointless. Harassing a mannequin is a somwhat victimless crime. What, would Majeed Karimi rather teenage boys go back to harassing women who dare to conduct their affairs in public? Let’s ban mannequins as they distract our boys from making cat calls and being a nuisance to REAL women! I think this thing is insane, (PLEASE REMEMBER THIS AS YOU READ THE REST) however I thought I’d introduce the other side of the argument:

I remember being 12 or 15 or so and having discussions with my other female friends that involved plans for devices like this. We were noticing that we were starting to get some very unwelcome attention from men (often 40 years old?!?) at bus stops, etc, and the thought of getting raped was very scary and suddenly very real. Until then we had felt carefree but suddenly it seemed like we were walking targets with no recourse or defense, relatively helpless if one of these guys one day decided to do something instead of just harrass and grab. And when you’re simultaneously being pushed into the line of fire while being made increasingly aware of the fact that you have next to nothing to defend yourself with, and that’s supposed to be normal, it feels damn unfair and you get angry.

And when you get angry you want to hurt. And make them as scared as they’re making you.

And the best way to do that is…?
