Bahrain Filmmakers Club

Following on from the discussions from this article, it certainly appears that we need some sort of gathering, club, or whatever you want to call it to encourage filmmaking in Bahrain. It doesn’t have to be high cost and Oscar grabbing or quality. I think just a place to hang out, share ideas and exhibit our work will do very nicely.

And as the “place” can certainly be the internet, why not start a shared blog or site that we can all participate in, and then organise a regular meeting at a mutually agreeable physical place so we can show our movies or just sit and discuss concepts, scripts, technical aspects of filmmaking, etc?

If you are interesting in joining such us in this venture, please register your interest in a comment here. I would appreciate it if you would email me your contact details as well so we can start an email list at least to initially discuss this idea.

Mahmood why don’t you open a Society of Film Maker ?????

In fact Bahrain economy can benefit a lot from specialist in this field if they really give the opportunity to grow the production industry .

The society can be active in creating awareness and providing consultation as well organizing necessary training for people interesting .

I think you have the resource and knowledge to create full training center as part of the society activity .

Many creative jobless(M/F) people can be trained and offer advices to start there career as well finance support through many serious development banks .(you will be selling the solution anyway) .

It could be more organize in the long-term .

I’m getting all giddy about the idea. I’m glad that the discussions can take place on the internet, because, unfortunately, I’m not in Bahrain to attend any meetings for now.

However, I am involved in a documentary film-making club at college. We just showed ‘Afghan Alphabet’ by Mohsen Makhmalbaf this week, and we’ll be showing ‘Ten’ in a couple of days.

If you haven’t seen either of those Iranian documentaries, Mahmood, I urge you to. They’re available at most DVD places in Bahrain, but ‘Aghan Alphabet’ is actually in the special features section of the movie ‘Kandahar,’ which is also good. It could’ve been better, though. It kind of drags along.

If you’re really into Iranian cinema, I can burn a couple of DVDs (it’s not illegal if it’s for a good cause) for you and mail it off.
