Shaikh Faisal bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, RIP

My deep condolences to His Royal Majesty Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa, the King of Bahrain, on the sudden demise of his 6th son, Shaikh Faisal, this afternoon due to a fatal car accident. Shaikh Faisal was just 14 years old.

May his soul rest in peace, and may Allah grant his family and friends patience and comfort.

I am sorry to learn of this tragedy and wish you peace. Perhaps your son liked camels and we would talk about that at his wake. God rest his soul.

According to news reports he was driving, but they also list him as 15 year old, so accuracy may be suspect.

If he was, then God grant his parents more common sense in raising their other children, as well as comforting them in their grief. Fifteen year old should not be driving cars, except in exceptional circumstances (for example disability – in a specially adapted invalid card).

Prince, 15, killed driving car

A 15-year-old son of Bahrain’s king has been killed in an accident while driving a car, a government official said.

The news of Prince Faisal’s death was not immediately announced, but state radio and television stopped their regular programmes and played readings from the Islamic holy book, the Koran – a sign of mourning.

An official in the Ministry of Youth said the prince lost control of the car that he was driving and collided with a traffic light and billboard.

The prince was the sixth son of the king, Sheikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

I missed two esses in the one-above post, keyboard must be sticky or my typing just terrible. Or both. I also wasn’t logged in.

FWIW all the “15-year-old” reports appear to come from the same Associated Press source. I checked the Bahrain Tribune, but couldn’t see a story there.

Come on guys, please, a father lost a son today. Have some compassion and let’s leave politics out of it for once, just once, please? We don’t even know all the facts yet, and it could well be one of Faisal’s bodyguards was driving. The thing is now is that a family needs comfort, not finger pointing and certainly not politics.

May Allah rest his soul in peace.

Re: Shaikh Faisal bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, RIP

Seems a sad few are taking great joy in this tragic death. Almost a narcissistic mentality some seem to have with the pain others have at this time.

Regardless of the facts a young man is dead and a Father and Mother have lost a son and at least 5 other siblings have lost their brother. Does or would it lesson the pain if he was driving? No it doesn’t.

His soul has departed this Earth and may Allah rest his soul.

Dear Mahmood,

If I may, I would like to comment on my last post.

When we are growing up we learn good and bad habits, like swearing, cursing or the use of bad language etc. and we can also learn good habits and effective use of swearing etc.

I notice that my address to the King did not include the boy’s mother and that I don’t even know what her title is. I made an assumption that my condolences were to the parents both united under the title of King. But the habit of royalty and eastern tradition seems to be ingrained in the very use of the language and mind set. I almost forgot Mom.

It can be very lonely in command.

Augurwell

PS I moved to a different province where the age for getting a drivers licence was 15 and not 16 like in Ontario back then but now it takes 2 years to get a full drivers licence.

Should we joy or mourn??? Should we laugh and make fun of the King? Or should we comfort him? What the morality dedicates us to do?
I am confused! Should I be happy because he is from the royal family and I should joy since I believe that his family is the responsible of people’s misery? Or should I mourn him and say he is dead; so forget about politics and comfort the King? But then, why the King does not mourn us, mourn our people who were killed defending their country???

Feel free to express yourself, but remember to have some respect and know that our religion teaches to be respectable no matter what. If you are really a true muslim, follow what Prophet Mohammed [ Peace upon him and his children] did.

Have some respect and let’s show the true essence of Islam. In the end, we all are humans. Allah is the only judge.

A confused man living in a confusing country.

My Deepest Condolences…

…none of us are above pain and suffering, the best we can do is insulate ourselves from it. Some do it better than others.

I stood next to my parent’s when they buried a child; believe you me, it is no small thing. It changes people, changes lives.

Yes, underage joyriding is a huge problem on the peninsula, I’ve lost friends to such brazen stupidity, but there is a time and a place for that discussion. Please show some respect, his body is probably still warm…

May God have mercy.

An immediate analysis of a fresh tragedy like this gives the impression that one places cold (but nonetheless needed) analysis above empathy for another human being.

Therefore unless this person was the anti-christ incarnate, I would suggest people put the analysis and statistics on hold for a short duration.

Ok, deep and sincere condolences. But let’s get realistic here…

The king’s son was killed due to an automobile accident. Now, if, and I stress on the IF here, IF he was driving himself. He got killed because he lost control of the car or something like that. The thing is, you will see now the traffic police will be even stricter on other “normal” people for someone else’s mess-up.

I do agree with you Mahmood to keep politics out of this one just for once, but let’s also face the consequences, the kid went to a better place, we’re left here with his consequences.

I remember when that Montana Cars owner Sh. madree main lost his son cuz he was 16, had his own Chevy Camaro and was loaded with nitros, and he used it to speed in a MIDDLE OF A CROWDED ROAD, he died and police started cracking down on other sports car lovers and started giving out tickets for the slightest mess-up, will the same happen now?

From: http://www.gulfnews.com
Manama: Shaikh Faisal Bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the sixth son of His Majesty King Hamad Bin Eisa Al Khalifa, died yesterday in a car accident near Safriya, 20 km south of Manama.
Faisal, 15, was a prominent figure in the kingdom’s equestrian and maritime sports and played a leading role in the World Junior Endurance Championship in Bahrain last month.
At the latest National Day celebrations, he presented the awards to the winners of the Omega J24 Match Racing Sailing Championship.
Shaikh Faisal was killed in a “regretful accident late Thursday,” according to a statement by the royal court published by the state news agency BNA.
He will be buried early today, it said.
Bahrain television and radio stations interrupted their regular programmes in late afternoon to broadcast clerics reading verses of the Holy Quran.
King Hamad has seven sons Salman, Abdullah, Khalifa, Nasser, Khalid, Faisal and Sultan and four daughters.

Politics is irrelevant: it doesn’t matter if he was a prince or a pauper. It’s extremely sad when anyone dies, but especially a young person with their whole life ahead of them. And it is also extra sad IF this young boy had been allowed to drive himself, as international sources are reporting, quoting Bahraini government sources:

”Prince Faisal, the sixth son of Sheik Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, died instantly after he lost control of the car he was driving and collided with a traffic light and billboard, said an official in the Ministry of Youth.”

If the latter is the case, then perhaps this tragedy will lead to a tightening of road rules that prevents it happening to someone else’s child.

Re: Shaikh Faisal bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, RIP

Please people. This is a 15 year old boy that has lost his life. Faisal was my student. A typical teenager and a typical boy. It is not uncommon for kids in Bahrain to drive without a license especially kids in the royal family. I don’t condone it and have often talked about how this should be monitored but it continues. But, the bottom line here is that Faisal, no matter what the circumstances of his death were, didn’t deserve this fate. Faisal was a combinationn of a gregarious, shy, engaging, sweet and funny kid. He did all the crazy things kids that age do and once tried to cut another class by sitting in mine….I guess he thought I wouldnt notice he was there. Please, make him human. He was a real person, not a royal figure. In my opinion he even seemed somewhat embarrassed and humble by his royal status. He just wanted to be one of the guys. I will always remember him. Faisal wherever you go ….may you go in peace.

Bollocks!!!

Confused? you? what, about this???
Bollocks!!!

And seriously, come on now, true muslim, religion, respect? In 2006?
Bolloc.. nah, I’ll save us this one. But good luck finding one of those around!!

Personally, I wish I had met the poor guy. Shit happening like this is beyond our control. But we are (at least I know I am) humane, and if we’re lucky, we would allow a part of us to die with him. While some (low life) of the bahraini community is laughing in spite, feeling very contempt, I (and those who identify with myself) would rather mourn within themselves for the fucking ruthless fate that we are all to be upon.

I really hate to have such input regarding such misfortune. I’m couldn’t even imagine being in the king’s shoes, must be overwhelming.. But I know I would’ve given my life to spare his. Not to go to heaven or hell or for god, the king, or the people to think much of me, but for my life to end in good cause.

Now go and do good onto others.

Shaikh Faisal bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, RIP

Condolences to the people of Bahrain. Sad that a young man with an undoubtedly bright future lost his life in such a gruesome way. There are a few points I’d like to make that are unrelated to this tragedy.

1. I find it interesting to note how the news clipping in one of the comments says by a reader above says “King Hamad has seven sons Salman, Abdullah, Khalifa, Nasser, Khalid, Faisal and Sultan and four daughters”. Why hide the daughters names??

2. Theres also a comment by a reader fearing the police cracking down on road violations now. I quote,
“…you will see now the traffic police will be even stricter on other “normal” people for someone else’s mess-up”….”I remember when that Montana Cars owner Sh. madree main lost his son cuz he was 16, had his own Chevy Camaro and was loaded with nitros, and he used it to speed in a MIDDLE OF A CROWDED ROAD, he died and police started cracking down on other sports car lovers and started giving out tickets for the slightest mess-up, will the same happen now?”
Why should they not be stricter??

3. I find it daft to see official condolences being delivered only to the Queen!

4. I foresee Hamad’s cops having a tough time implementing underage driving regulations in the future…will be interesting to see how this will be justified….will an Honorable member of the Shura ask for stricter laws on underage driving???

5. Finally, from Khaleej Times Online:
”he official said Shaikh Faisal had been with a number of bodyguards, one of whom was driving the car. Sources said the driver of the bus, a 39-year-old Pakistani, had changed lanes suddenly as he attempted to make a left turn”
As a Pakistani myself I feel more for this poor guy….I hope he doesn’t get into shit. May Allah Bless him.

Cheers,
SD.

They’re not, here’s a full list.

I find it daft to see official condolences being delivered only to the Queen!

Not sure what you’re getting at here, but the Queen of Bahrain also has a majlis and doubtless she too is receiving people in condolence today as well.

As a Pakistani myself I feel more for this poor guy

What’s nationality got to do with anything? If the driver who was the cause of the accident is proven to be at fault, deal with him in a legal framework appropriately. As to the other points, others have touched upon them. Not sure what your motives are but I hope they are not derogatory.

The Queen? HRH Shaikha Sabeeka is always referenced in the English-language Tribune and GDN as “the wife of His Majesty,” never as the “Queen.”

Also, none of the Bahrain press or blogs appear to have named or offered condolences to the mother of Faisal, God rest his young soul. I send mine to her as well as to HM the King, his other children and family. I feel the loss in my heart, too. j

ok I seem to have written this in a wrong way, I know it’s good for the police to be stricter on the young idiots who speed on the roads recklessly, but they will also crack down on normal people for the SLIGHTEST mess-up.

They won’t go cracking down on the rich and powerful people as usual, they will flex their muscles on the normal population. It’s a good thing to wake the policce up and have them deal with recklessness on the road, but they won’t do it to those rich idiots who still won’t care about anything. “The son of the king is dead, I am a better driver than him and won’t get into an accident. And I dare the police to do anything to me, I am rich and powerful. Let them catch the poor bastards who cannot defend themselves” This is the way they think, they think they’re invincible.

I didn’t mean by what I said that the police shouldn’t be stricter. But what I inisist on is that they apply the law to EVERY single one, not just a selected portion of the people.

lets try to forget for one moment that he was a prince and focus on the fact that a parent has lost a child, if my 11 year old son took my car and god forbid had an equally tragic accident then i believe that everyone i know would be focusing on the fact of the bearevment more than if he had a license or not…..come on guys…..get real….royal or pauper at the end of the day a mother and father have lost a child and thats the main issue here……..i myself am an expat working in a different gulf state, but as a parent who preys i never face the same situation, i can only imagine the terrible loss and the vacuum that will be left in his family by his passing
the King and Queen of Bahrain have my condolenses and sympathy with regard to there loss not because they are royals but because they are 1. human and 2. a parents who have suffered a tragic loss…

With regard to the idiots on the road there are certianly more normal idiots than royal idiots. Therefore any police clamp down is both long overdue and necessary if we are to avoid furhter carnage on Bahrain’s roads.

The worst experience a parent can face is burying their own children, no matter what the circumstances of their death. I belive we should all be thinking of King Hamad at this time and sharing his grief. Who knows when it could be your own?

Many of you seem curious regarding the accident, Rumour is going around the kingdom that its infact the car of “Abeer”, which is a pretty popular car in Bahrain, a flashy pink Audi TT and that abeer herself and a couzin of Prince Faisal, are both in the I.C.U, as far as i know it isnt confirmed by anyone yet (sure as hell wont be confirmed by any press release) but pictures of accident show that it iss that particular flashy pink audi tt.

There is nothing to do with any religion in this topic, this is a bereaved family who has lost a son. At least be a human being and have the decency to offer your condolences without turning this into a political issue.

As to overthrowing governments, maybe you should start with your own? Your accent certainly does not reflect your being a Bahraini, nor does your IP address. So quit while you’re ahead. If you want to discuss anything else, maybe you should start your jihad by declaring truthfully who you are… rather than throwing rocks over the fence while ducking like a coward?

49. mahmood

Re: Shaikh Faisal bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, RIP

Oscar, yes, there are transgressions which are unforgivable. Yes, some people within the clan should be brought back inline. Yes, there have been some changes in the last few years. A lot of those changes are to the better, some not. The end result is that you have to realise that they are human beings too and some, maybe a minority within the family, do abuse their powers and some do get up to mischief just as you have witnessed. But it’s hardly fair to broadstroke the whole family from the transgressions of an individual or even a small group.

I’m sorry that your experience in Bahrain did not leave you with more good memories.

50. anonymous

Shaikh Faisal bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, RIP

In my opinion the death of any human being should be mourned. This was an aspiring young boy who was taken away too young from the world but to be in a better place.
I do believe politics should not be involved as a young life has already been lost. We should not judge other people, we should work together to make this world a better place to live in. While i am sure most of us out there are mourning the death of this young boy, we should take his death as a wake up call, stop judging and start acting, instead of pointing fingers, try doing something good and useful in remembrance of this boy.
Remember that while you all are here arguing together about the royals of this beloved country, there are parents out there grieving. So put your judgments to one side and be better people!

Second of all, i’m not against politics, again i’m against arguing whether a person deserves to die or how they die etc. We should work together to help build a stronger world, a world where judging isnt like lions catching and eating there prey, we’re not in this world to fight, we want to live in peace, now how is that going to happen if we sit here judging the manner of a little boys death, a little boy, who happens to be from the ruling family.

The Khalifa family does not have to abide by *any* rules, especially traffic ones. They have always been able to drive with the pedal to the floor and get nothing but salutes from the traffic police.

It’s been many years since I’ve been to Bahrain, but there was a prince (hell, there’s hundreds of them) in particular that drove around with a shotgun in the rear window of his truck. He parked it on the sidewalk of the Seef mall. Once, an unknowing Seef security guard told him to move his truck and he pulled out the shotgun and stuck it in his face.

Wasn’t in the news, it never made a court case either. Where was I? Across the street in Chili’s.

Obviously, Khalifa = priviledge. Everyone knows that they get away with murder (literally) and that will not change any time soon. I’m sorry, but I cannot feel sadness for the family since none of them have ever endured hard labor and have not gone a single day with hunger.

I grieve for their victims– not for silver-spoon sucking brats that aren’t content with video game race cars. I am just grateful that this idiot took himself out and didn’t bring an innocent family with him.

An eye witness to the accident on January 12

An eye witness to the accident on January 12 recounted what took place. A Capital Transport bus was on Zallaq Highway, ready to turn left onto another road. The bus was carrying passengers to Bahrain International Circuit for a motor-race event there.

Suddenly, the bystander saw a yellow Audi come speeding towards the bus. Possibly the bus had its turn signal flashing for a left turn. The driver of the speeding Audi may have seen the turn signal and decided, rather than pass on the left to go around the bus on the right, hitting the right end of the bus and causing the car to upturn and crash into a wall.

The eye witness went to the car and saw that the driver, Shaikh Faisal, was at the wheel, a person he recognised but, bleeding from the head, had died instantly. Going to the passenger side, a dazed man’s eyes looked upwards three times before he passed away, too, though some say the passenger is a coma in a hospital.

According to students at Ibn al Khaldoon School, where Faisal was expelled last year after he insisted on bring a stun gun to school, the boy had been driving “for years.” How can someone 13-15 years old get a licence or, perhaps without one, still drive? Who would issue a licence to an underage driver?

The law should be applied to everyone, royal or not. And as we have seen with this utterly tragic death, even royals are mortal. Moreover, is there no parental supervision, discipline or responsibility?

What kind of mum and dad would knowingly let their adolescent son drive? Something’s amiss here. If Dad is running the country, the mums should get together to lay down the law to the tribe of eight sons and four daughters so that the father and wives become exemplary parents, and the kids would be role models for other youth.

Re: Arse about face

If you start your little “condolence” message with:

I am for the overthrow of the royal families that dominate us unIslamically

How would you expect me or anyone else to take it? if this is your way of showing respect to the dead, I can just about guess your methods or respect for the living, Mohammed X.

Yes he should not have been driving as he was underage. But it is too late. He did and now he is gone. The point is a young life has been lost and we have to give our deepest condolences to his mother and father and the rest of his family. May Allah rest his soul in eternal peace.

Anonymous on January 16, 2006 05:16 PM says Faisal was expelled from Ibn al Khaldoon School ar after he insisted on bringing a gun to school.

If a school can expel a royal can’t the police pull up the royal for under-age / rash driving?

If the parents knew about their son driving and did nothing about it, thats very irresponsible of them.

Not only did the boy fritter away his life, he put other lives in danger. Unforgivable.

Actually he was driving the car but after accident police is saying that his bodygaurd was driver of the car not him. this is typical game of rich and famous, and now they r saying that the bus driver was taking a wrong cut thats why the speedy audi v8 collided with him first then the traffic sinals

May he rest in peace, and my deepest condolences. Yes this is a terrible loss for the Royal family and may god help his family and friends with their mournings.

Such a young soul, so much potential and as others posted i’m sure he’s a great person..

There are a few ways in looking at this accident. 1st Bahrain in general needs tighter control over its drivers and this is one life lost within many that lose it just because of wreckless driving.

2nd is it a lack of control ? Or just kids will be kids?

3rd We want to know the facts.. why has the story changed slightly ?

Its very hard looking at it in any point of view …

.. again my deepest sympathies and may god rest his soul in peace. Allah yir7ama..

((Interesing Fact))Even IF he was driving, 15 is not a young age.. the starting age of driving is 16 here in canada, i owned a car when I was 16… and also heared about it being 15 in some parts of the U.S like Texas..

“Prince Faisal, the sixth son of Sheik Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, died instantly after he lost control of the car he was driving and collided with a traffic light and billboard, said an official in the Ministry of Youth.”

Maybe he accidentally drove into one of the many infamous billboards of the ‘Royal Threesome’ stuck up every traffic light on the island! I have no empathy for an unruly child that needed to be taught a lesson or two…ultimately a deadly lesson. Thankfully not at the cost of an innocent bystander, this time….

So much for reinforcing driving laws in Bahrain. I will keep holding my breath when I buckle up.
