I’m waiting on my 17″ MBP to arrive :) Should be here sometime next week. I LOVE it. I messed around with it while we were at the Mac store in Cali, and let me tell you… this machine is a beauty.

It kinda sucks that they came out with the 13″ so soon (it’s just been 3 months since the release of the MBP).

    Anon2, isn’t it?

CuteOne, I’m sorry, would you have to hire a body builder to actually carry that thing for you?

    Height: 1.4”
    Width: 18.75”
    Depth: 13.5”
    Weight: 15 lbs with battery

I need a laptop for goodness sake, not a slab of concrete!

The only thing I’m unhappy about is the MacBook’s weight. 2.36 kg

Sony Vaio TX series which has a screen size only 2″ smaller than the MacBook weighs in at 1.25KG – (or 1.5KG with the extended battery life option)

But hey, at least, it’s a silver lining in these dark and dreary days, thanks to old Dino Batelco

    Looks great though!

    - i’ll stick to my PPC 12″ powerbook for now and wait for 2nd generation intel pro range.

As I don’t play computer games at all (I detest them because I suck at them big time!) I don’t care that much about the graphic card, if it runs Avid Xpress Pro and the regular office applications I use, then I’m a happy cookie.

fair enough, the macbook/ibook has its particular demographic. I’m not a big gamer (warcraft III and a couple of other games aside) but I still expect my set-up to handle anything thrown at it with a certain degree of responsiveness. e.g. I might expect expect to be running x11, and virtual machines, etc. Having a dedicated graphics card certainly helps in that respect. Also OS X.x is notoriosly RAM hungry, giving more of that to handle basic Quartz tasks is something that bugs me. All said, I’m probably harder to satisfy than most in this respect!.

Still, I like the name Darthbook!

I am starting to consider getting a MAC. Pains me deeeeeeeeeply to admit it but after the last 30 days dealing with DELL and all the BS with their ultra crappy TECH support and basic customer service I have reached the conclusion that Apple is something I should look at. At least on a LAPTOP level. Would you consider this Mac a good choice for an basic laptop for “wireless” internet use and office type applications? If not what would you suggest I look at? I have no clue about Mac but DAMNIT after all I have been through of late I am ready to learn.

Good! Just go for it, let everything else aside, just make like Nike and do it!

Everything else will follow, and yes, any of the new MacBooks will do quite nicely, especially that with BootCamp you can easily run Windows and its applications if you must.

    CerebralWaste –

like mahmood said, just do it. I’ve been a mac user for more than 7 years now and I can definitely tell you to go out and get your MBP. OSX is just so much better and much more stable than windows. I run more than one audio application at a time, and I’ve experienced that applications on mac run so much smoother than their counterparts on windows.

I have never had many problems with Windows or other software being stable. My problems are resting with DELL and crappy parts and service. I run a pretty lean system. The last 30+ days have seen 3 tech on site sevice calls (all under warrenty) and in the end DELL replaced my system but still mananged not to send the correct one at that.

Now I need to replace my aging IBM laptop and after this latest brainfart with Dell I have no desire to spend a single penny with them for a long long time, if ever. So MAC’s are now in play. Even though I have never been a big of Apple I doubt they can be any worse than what I have been through of late! So tommorrow I will run up to the Apple store and see what they have to offer. So Mahmood shall I grab one of these Macbooks for you? I can have in your hands in less than 2 weeks.

    Sexy….. Remember the MacPortable?

    http://www.lowendmac.com/pb/portable.shtml

“Energy saving tricks include turning … trying to open all your files at once to minimize disk access”

“The Portable draws the same amount of power whether shut down or asleep, so it is generally best to put it to sleep unless it won’t be used
    again for several days”

    5-10hour battery

    40mb Hard Drive

    1-6mb Ram

    16lbs + 2lbs for battery

    $6500 – 1989 dollars
