I haven’t seen the script of that interview, but heard several views of people who were totally against women’s rights using that interview to justify their stance.

If Ms. Al-Kawari’s appointment is just a PR stunt, then that has already backfired, and that would have delayed the onset of women’s rights a few years at least.

The hope now is for shaikha Hayya at the UN I guess.

I hope the government wakes up and realizes the mistake they have made in selecting an unexperienced uneducated woman like her! She had no clue as to how to answer the interviewer. She almost had ZERO views on women and their rights. She had nothing to say about the situation in our Sharia courts and kept going on and on about her new appointment and how it proves that women have equal opportunities in Bahrain. Fine! There is no problem in that, but she was using that as an answer to every single question. She also kept saying how Bahrain is perfect in every way and she has no clue why people are complaining about court cases here! (DUUUUUH!!!!) Not only that, the interviewer was trying to control her laughter by the end and just decided she had had enough of this woman! SOOOOO EMBARRASSING!!!

Bahrain woman to head UN assembly

Bahrain’s first female diplomat Haya Rashed al-Khalifa is due to be formally elected president of the UN General Assembly, UN officials say.

Ms Khalifa, 53, will succeed Jan Eliasson, the Swedish foreign minister.

Ms Khalifa was approved by the 191-nation assembly’s Asian bloc in accordance with the rotation principle.

She is one of the first women to have practised law in Bahrain. She is known as a champion of women’s rights in the country’s Islamic courts.

She has her own law firm and is an adviser to Bahrain’s royal court.

In 2000-2004, she was Bahrain’s ambassador to France.

Ms Khalifa will become the third woman to head the UN General Assembly after the election later on Thursday.

And it’s not 666 in the Islamic calender, only the Roman one, which is fitting since the “real” 666 was the beast Nero, though Ann Coulter, who chose this day to release her new book called “Godless” (and you can’t make this stuff up) does a fairly good imitation!

But Yay for Bahrain – hopefully some of her sisters will be joining her before too much longer. This is really wonderful news….
