Bandargate…

Let the games begin.

It’s an election year, and the opposition have gotten their hands on something they can actually now bargain with… should be quite an ineresting few weeks coming up!

The report will come to a website near you, it was promised, but not before having a field day -or rather a field evening- with it.

“It speaks of a special team of 4 Jordanians charged with surveying and analyzing the political and electoral scene, compensated with upward of BD1600 monthly each. (I tip a hat for their manifested thoroughness). Of a slush fund of BD 2 million to manipulate elections. Of a special media team to inundate local and international media with anti-opposition articles and stories. Of concerted effort to ensure that four named Sunni candidates (including Dr. Salah Ali and Jamal Dawood) plus three unnamed Shia Sayyid candidates do win. Of a program to pay money to Shia families who converted to Sunniism. Of how much Al-Watan’s is monthly-subsidized (BD100 K). Of how much an editor in chief and a head of a “human rights watch” are being paid for their teamwork, etc, etc, all in crystal clear photocopied documents.”

Welcome to “Bush World.” Typical ‘dirty-trick’ electioneering. You’ll know you’ve arrived in the world of power politics when they start manipulating the intel and announce on TV that all the (fill in the blank) has been poisoned by (fill in the blank) and you’re unpatriotic to question it.

This either will be an amazing bargaining tool for the opposition which would be used to speed up the whole political process in Bahrain or all hell is gonna break lose and we’re back to the 90s. except a dozen times worse.

Obviously little has changed. It still sounds like a blanket charge, while something else hides under the covers.

Man, this is how we treat consultants who find what we don’t want to hear?

  7. WordOnTheStreet

Word on the street, the report include…

(*) Plans for assassinating leading opposition figures.
    (*) Creating Sunni-Shiite conflicts.
(*) Neutralization of 150,000 in a short period of time.
(*) Leadership of HH Ahmed Atiyat-Allah Al Khalifa
(*) Sponsored by Kuwait Finance House !!

Here are the first two pages with more to come when I get my hands on the report…

How substantiated is this information? Are “wordonthestreet”‘s claim’s legitimate? Plans for assasinating opposition figures, creating sunni-shi’ite conflicts and neutralizing 150,000 are too much to stomach… Mostly since I do not see how anyone in the government would ever have thought, that those policies would at all be in their benifit.

If Proof is given out that the original charges have any truth, then there needs to be a full and public investigation, conducted by neutral international observers.

I still completly refuse to belive wordonthestreets additional charges… I hope for all our sakes that he is just another nobrain radical trying to throw oil into the fire, and that both forum readers and citizens don’t take it or any other outlandish suggestions, as blind truth.

… we have the claims (with a nice range between moderate to extreme), now lets demand the facts! But do not search for truth with a predetermined outcome in your mind, or all you will see are the facts you want. Neutral, compentant international observers are the dish of the year. Hopefully enough people (and the government) will be on board for that suggestion… lets avoid the 90s and turn a new page in how citizen government confrontation is handled in this country… don’t give the people on top another reason (bombings, violence) to shut this case closed by declaring a security situation.

I am so with you on this. When I read the two pages and the bullet points entered by WordOnTheStreet my jaw dropped and a tight knot was created in my stomach.

Far fetched, yes of course they might be, but in the almost complete breakdown in trust between both sides, any claim like this will be taken as gospel, and the saddening thing is that you will also find people completely and utterly agreeing with these points as legitimate tools of governance.

The king is meeting the heads of political societies tomorrow.. let’s see what transpires from that meeting. Maybe he will touch upon these issues.
