It is with great sorrow that I learnt a few minutes ago that Shaikh Abdulamir Mansour Al-Jamri, one of the biggest personalities that helped shape the current era in Bahrain, has just passed away after a long illness.
May Allah grant him peace and tranquillity and his children and family the patience and succour at this time of sadness.
His son, Dr. Mansour Al-Jamri is the Editor-in-Chief of Al-Wasat Newspaper.
More information about this great man is available on his website which is in Arabic.

May Allah grant peace and strength to his family and may they find courage and inner strength in the ideals he left behind for them and in the happy memories he helped them to nurture. Adham Allah Ajrah!
Do we get another day off tommorow?

He was a great soul!

May God Bless his pure soul. A great man was and a loveing personality. I am in deep sorrow and sadness to hear this news. He has given so many of his life, time, family and status for his people. As you said Mahmood, this curretn era has been largely achieved thanks to his patience and determination. Though he said that this Disabled Parlimant is Not what he and the people of Bahrain were fighting for.
I am very proud to carry his name… and hope to carry his belifs for democracy and freedom.

But hatred is expressed in this blog (in Arabic):

It would be a great idea of we could write few lines about this Shaikh Abdul-Amir. This is for everyone who is not from Bahrain, and it is for the history.
1. Was born in 1939.
2. Studied locally and then moved to Iraq where he continued his education. He was thought by Sayed Baqer Al-Sader.
3. He returned to join the Parliament in 1973. He was one of the main opposition against many legislations, including the notoriously known security law.
4. he worked as a judge until 1988 when he was forced to leave his job due to his opposition.
5. he was the leading figure in collecting votes an for the petition demanding reforms in 1992 and 1994, during which more than 30 Bahrainis were killed by the government.
6. He was detained in 1995 for 5 months, when he was released with the promise of reforms. The government however denied any intention.
7. in 1999 he was sentenced for 10 years, but released by the amir “makrummah”. He was detained in his own home for 2 years. During which he has several heart attacks.
8. in 2002 he had several strokes.
He has a famous saying about the existing parliament, saying that this is not the parliament that the bahrainis struggled for.
anymore?
It would be hard to find the right words to describe Sheikh AbdulAmir AlJamri, a person that had dedicated his whole life for this country.
Allah yer7ama,
Inshallah we get to see many figures that would learn from not only what he taught us, but from his whole life, and work to help bahrain be what we all dream it to be, a land of justice, peace, equality.
Bahrain TV has broadcasted in tonight’s main news bulletin the news about the death of Actress Majida Alkhateeb (Egyptian). Yet, it totally ignored the news of Aljamri’s death and the mass funeral ceremony 🙁
How much more can we tolerate from this Ministry of Disinformation and the govenment?
I feel so sad and angry about that 🙁 😡
typical I-don’t-want-to-look-like-I-care tactic.

Sohail and Khalood, you’re going to be sorely disappointed for the rest of your lifetime I’m afraid, as Shaikh Al-Jamri will be present in every aspect of Bahrain going forward, even more so than the past.
I wouldn’t be surprised at all in having the Ministry of Education to include his life and times in their Patriotism curriculum, and they should do so as soon as possible and also include other Bahraini greats like Abdulrahman Al-Baker and Layla Fakhro etc.
Democracy means that we don’t all need to agree,, correct?
Translate that into; I don’t need to like him if you do….
God rest his soul, regardless whether I shared his political/religous sentiment or not.
As for casting his life/death on TV, well that isn’t done for anyone, not for the Kings son, not for any x-ministers, not for any political/reglious figure, so there’s no point in viewing it as an issue of prejudice. BTV had a right in doing that… Besides, Al-Wasat, I am sure, will do the honours…
My two cents,

Would have agreed with you had the issue been democracy. To me it isn’t, it’s simple human decency.
I express my sincere condolences to Dr Mansur and the al-Jamri family.
May he rest in peace.

He was a person who motivated a country and stood-up for the freedom of speech for all the free-people of Bahrain. Lived & died for the freedom & better life of the people.
If the King wants to be loved as much as Shaikh Al-Jamri, he should’ve at least do as simple as the late Shaikh did. The very least thing and the only thing that people would only demand from any leader is simply “Justice”.
I express my sincere condolences to Dr Mansur and the al-Jamri family and to the free-patriot good people of our beloved country.
May he rest in peace.
