Reminder: 26th Bloggers’ Gathering this Thursday

This is the first of the “new age” bloggers’ gatherings which I hope will have more substance and you will enjoy and benefit from.

The short agenda will include the following:

  • The State of the Bahraini blogosphere
  • New blogs in 2007
Needs a sponsor, please step up!
  • Report on the BYSHR’s Electronic Journalism Freedom and the Role of Blogs in Supporting Human Rights Workshop
    by Mohammed Al-Maskati
  • New blogging technologies
I will present ways in which I have optimised my WordPress blog, this might benefit someone.
  • Comparison of hosting plans used by bloggers
Needs a sponsor, could anyone please step up and discuss this topic? If not we can drop it.
  • Highlights of issues covered by bloggers so far (shall we call this the “monthly roundup”?)
  • Mohammed Al-Kabour, coming all the way from Ireland, will present (10 minutes max!):
    • A brief history of human right abuses in the internet and the Blogosphere
    • Recent developments in the Region (Karim Amer case etc..)
    • The role of Human Rights NGOs like Amnesty International in reference to arbitrary detentions and the violation of the human rights of bloggers. Lobbying techniques, media and public awareness campaigns use by NGOs that can be adapted and used by bloggers themselves.

Followed and interspersed with drink, food, dance, general merriment and plenty of brainfood!

The meeting is going to be UPSTAIRS in Al-Bareh Café starting at 7PM and will last to approximately 9PM.

    Mahmood,

Can you upload it later on You-Tube? I am interested in learning the new blogging technologies, the topics of the other two presentations are interesting too.

    Thanks.

Unfortunately as YouTube accepts a maximum of 10 minutes, putting the whole thing on is not worth the effort.

What I will do though, is put up the powerpoint/pdf presentations for download and maybe, if we’re lucky, we can do a podcast out of it!

Super! Good job in setting this up, mahmood… also, Al Bareh should be an interesting venue with the current Saudi artist’s exhibit (which started tonight.)

bring the projector Sadeq, and the VGA cable with it please. If you’re speaking about the hosting plans, can you please make a ppt file for it too? It would be good if we made all of these presentations available for download to those who could not attend.

the press are coming too. so make it snappy!

Ah I wish I could go to meetings like this (not that I’m a Baharani blogger but still). A great initiative. Hope you all benefit from it.

It will be. I’ll be uploading the presentations soon, and Sadeq brought his video camera and he shot the proceedings. If he gives me the tape soon enough I can edit and upload it soon.
