I got this picture in an email from a friend this morning; the picture shows a car, the significance of which is that its owner has plastered his various certificates on it, and has even put a caption on his read windshield saying “Unemployed National.”
I’m not sure how to take this; is he making a political statement or is he genuinely looking for a job?
It is creative, for sure, I’ve never a “looking for a job” done like this before; regardless, I think that the level of its effectively is lacking due to various reasons:
- There is no obvious telephone number to contact him to offer him a job.
- As he is unemployed, he’s going to be hard pushed to buy petrol to cruise around the island advertising his wares.
- If petrol money is not available, then people who will know about his plight are most probably of his environs, and they probably know about him anyway. Therefore this is a wasted exercise.
The saving grace of course is that he got shot simply by coincidence by a passing motorist who has emailed the pictures around. Without that particular link, the whole effort might have been wasted.
The other conclusion of course is that he is making a political statement. Which begs the question if he actually submitted his papers to the Ministry of Labour or the EDB’s employment programs and what he got out of that activity, if any, especially that the Ministry of Labour now declares that the unemployment rate in Bahrain has dropped to a very respectable 3.8%.
I hope that the guy gets a job, sincerely, as he has at least shown perseverance and has peacefully used his constitutional right to demonstrate against an issue he obviously feels very strongly about.
Good luck to the guy, whoever he is.

Must be frustrating. I’m on the Job market now for a week and I don’t feel easy. HR jobs are few and far between.
He would be caught by the traffic police for blocking his rear view, people with darker tints cant get away with it let alone blocking the view with his certificates. Creative nevertheless
I don’t think he is doing that in order to find a job. He is probably doing that to show that he went everywhere and none accepted him although he holds all these certificates. And he also probably thinks that the certificates are useless, therefore he is sticking them on his car.

He is a creative guy. He’s definitely making a statement! I think he’ll do a good job as a salesman, that’s for sure 😉

Hey dont sweat it man. I was on the market for about 3 months before I landed a gig. The funny thing is that for those whole 3 months, I got nothing. Then one thursday, I got 4. When it rains it pours I guess.
That being said, I have absolutely no love for HR. (I semi-seriously think every company should be structured like a beehive so that we can be done with them altogether). I especially get annoyed when the HR lady sits in front of me and asks “So, insert_my_name_here, why would you want to work for us?” Part of me just wants to raise my hands up and scream “Because I cant pay my rent with toothpicks”, but I usually control myself and simply reply “Umm… because your work is ever so interesting.”
But hang in there dude. Just be vigilant. Post your resume on monster, and update (or reload it) everyday. Also actively search. I used a site called http://www.indeed.com for my job searches – I think its really really good. I made it a goal to apply to at least 3 jobs every night. (There is also a site called http://www.linkedin.com , which is sort of like a myspace for professionals. I put up a profile not too long ago.)
Anyway, you HR people are supposed to be slick smooth talkers – so I wouldnt worry about it too much. Im sure you’ll find (or talk your way into) one real soon.

i must admit smart idea, but yet hehehe is he too lazy to actually print CV’s and fax them e-mail them or whatever or did he try????
i have less certificates than he does but i never have trouble with finding a job bahrain is full of them, but i forgot to say that in any job interview in Bahrain as soon as i say i’m bahraini i simply get rejected, i’ve worked in alot of places in bahrain but to save my identity i won’t name these places, but i worked in a place where i was fired for nothing that i did wrong. but simply the boss wanted to hire an ARAB nationalist who was kinda very close to my boss’s country and culture i used to work there and i was the only bahraini working in a famous place in bahrain, well as we say ain’t a SHAME, yeah yeah yeah i must say the guy didn’t get a lower pay but yet his pay was more than mine and yet he sucks and what he does….
“keep these ships coming, attention all 3rd world countries throw all your low lifes, scum bags, ignorants, people who don’t know how speak a tongue of modren humen and drop over here” Bahraini and proud, of his book this place drives me crazy..
i have 2 friends who are considered new comers the
1st: is a great sport men and he deserves to stay here and be one of us plus the guy is like a brother to me if not more.
2nd: was born here and his dad was a great business man who hired alot of bahrainis and helped solving the unemployment problam and he is too like a brother but he left the country…
Do you know that alot of bahraini leave the country to work on foriegn soil???
do you know that alot of our youngsters consider migrating to alot of places… i personally have thought of Canada, America or England, but i’m actually leaving bahrain for somewher else???
educate me for i’m an idiot, isn’t right that if you waste your human expert loyal (not too hard working 😉 ) but yet they original genuine CITIZENS and replace them with uneducated people from different backgrounds and culture
1st you never grant thier loyallty
2nd you waste money training them all over again
3rd you might import CRIMINALS, killers and people who won’t have ( galbi 3ala galbuk) feature installed in them, translation to they won’t have this Bahraini unity and love for other bahrainis. but no they will come and polute our breathing air and waste fine space that true Bahrainis can walk on.. and i don’t care if you call me racist because i don’t see as human beings unless i know thier in benfit to our great nation…

last time I was looking I got about 9 offers in a week! I was gob smacked! I am getting restless now because it feels wierd.
