True. What I mean is, users tend to want external links in a new window/tab! Whether _blank would open in a new window or a new tab would depend on your browsers’configuration. At the end, it is good practice.

That’s why I love FireFox, a middle-mouse-button-click opens up the link in a new tab or window depending on your own preference.

Explorer does the same if you click the mouse right button over the link.

Take the Global Compact (www.globalcompact.com) initiative by the United Nations for example.

How many organisations in Bahrain participated in the program?? One only, Aluminium Bahrain! what about the rest? Are they aware of it or is it difficult for them to adhere to its priniciples?

Take a company like GPIC as an example:
They are not selling their products to the general public in Bahrain, and they will not gain new local customers by having their logo displayed all accross.
Their contribution to society is one of a kind, you will find them in every single social, sport, charitable and academic activity.
It’s one of the very few Triple Bottom Line companies in Bahrain and the world.

The last time I checked, the BBK gateway only accepted BBK issued cards and it was no way near other Merchant Account vendors. If they have developed since the last time I looked then all power to them and we need more!

It accepts any credit card regardless of the issuer. I agree we need more options, BBK were not flexi at all, but I still had no choice and hated that.

don’t you just hate sites that forces you to follow links in a new window? What does that tell you as a visitor? That they are afraid that you will leave and never come back to their site or that you are simply too lazy to hit the “back” button, in either situation it denotes a level of mistrust in themselves and you.

I actually prefer sites opening external links in a new window. It feels like a de facto that external links are opened in a new window while links within the website are opened in the same window. I feel quite disoriented when that rule is violated, I still expect to see the window I was reading in, rather than have it disappear! Plus most of the time I want to have both windows open, so the new link saves me the “right click open in a new tab/window”.

Back to blaming Batelco. Yes, I do blame it on Batelco and the TRA. A large share of the blame falls on Batelco though. Take their last offer for example. They took the initiative of advertising it in national newspapers BEFORE having the offer approved by the TRA. What for? Between the time of the advertising and the actual approval (if it ever happens), batelco is making every client who was contemplating moving to another ISP reconsider- even if at the end of the day their offer would not see the light.

So I guess bottom line is, I agree with you.

The telecom law does contain a “anti-trust” competition clause for the telecom industry only. This is our first real monopoly to competition attempt, I hope it carries over to BAS at the airport and other places.

Batelco always complains about the services in which they lose money, such as directory inquiries and fixed line monthly rental charge. I do think that if the TRA is tough enough we can see further reductions in prices in both IDD, and Data Connectivity. We are still a long way to go from ideal rates.

Mahmood, the only reason you see some other companies following Batelcos lead in “limited bandwidth broadband” is that they are buying these packages at wholesale and selling them at retail.

I am optimistic about both MENA and MTCs WiMax solutions, and I think Batelco will have to keep reducing their DSL and Leased Line prices.
