Mike, a lot of people seek to adress this issue with new media.

There’s no such thing as impartial news. Pure objectivity is a chimera. But that shouldn’t stop me from being interested in what’s going on in Africa or far away in East Asia, for example. Getting out and seeing that isn’t so easy – I need to depend on other sources of information.

The thing to do is to be aware of bias and take it into account. Baghdad Burning, for example, is not an objective account, but it is a superbly informative blog. Where else could the information presented therein be available?

As global villagers, we can’t throw our toys out of the pram and leave international issues and international communication to the corporate monoliths and the big players. That ain’t good for people like us.

Mass media is what is poisoning the world with it’s biased reporting, selective sound bites, and one sided view on world events.
Want to know what he world is reall all about? Then get out and see it, just watch out for all those things the media choose not to present.
