Something to ponder…

12 Mar, '11

The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of doubt, what is laid before him.

— Leo Tolstoy, 1897

How timeless and apt.

    Beautiful…

  2. Robert says:

Indeed how timeless and apt. Shame all our lot seem to fall into the second category! What on earth is going on today?

  3. Steve the American says:

This neatly explains why so many people graduate from college stupider than they entered.

  4. milter says:

    How true!

The trouble with the world is that the stupid are so confident while the intelligent are full of doubt.

  5. Dan says:

    And THEN the Saudis invaded.

The U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet stood by with American myrmidons just in case someone in Bahrain invites the Americans do to Bahrain what they did to Iraq.

    • Steve the American says:

So now America is castigated when it doesn’t invade Bahrain while the Saudis do invade it? Has America hating descended to such lows that acts that only occur in your fevered, bigoted imagination are facts for you? If Bahrainis are shot in their own streets it will be done by their own forces or the Saudis, not by Americans.

      • ajax says:

        yep.

the last thing you guy would went

another spawning point for terrorist to attack the us

        ha!

        • Steve the American says:

Ajax, Muslims terrorists need no excuse to attack America. It’s their religious doctrine. We made the Saudis rich and they still found reasons in their Koran to kill Americans by the thousands. We saved Afghanistan from the Soviets and they still were happy to launch attacks on us, their benefactors.

      • Dan says:

Now that you have stooped to name calling again, the true mark of someone not only with zero evidence to support their position and an indicator that the hurler of such names lacks the mental control to engage in constructive conversation but, also, the true mark of an agitator and American intelligence (ROTFLMAO) operative.

While me stating a fact and following it with a sarcastic remark, which uses my own nation as the brunt of such (deserved) sarcasm, may not appeal to you, BOTH are firmly grounded in the facts of reality.

So what evidence is there to substantiate my “bigoted imagination?” “Cinch down” on it for me. Will ya, “Steve?”

        • Steve the American says:

Dan, you’re a nut whose brain is eaten up with conspiracy theories and hatred of America. In typical grandiose paranoid schizophrenic fashion, you think anyone who calls you on your nonsense is an agent flown in on the black helicopters by the New World Order. If I’m an intel operative, where’s my paycheck? I’m happy to defend America for free, but I’d be even happier to get paid for it. I’ll accept cash, if Uncle Sam is listening.

  6. ajax says:

    thank godness

the order will be restored soon enough and the mobs will be cleansed of street

    Dear Mahmood,

I have been visiting your site for years and was sad when you went away but glad upon your return. I have never posted on your site before and do miss your videos of your garden, flowers and your pets…just wanted to say so.

I enjoy the information and comments written here, hence my repeat visits…

Also, I think you may have left the L out of Tolstoy.

    Have a good day.
