It’s official, Khalifa Al-Dhahrani was elected unopposed to the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives for the second term in parliament, while Ghanim Al-Buainain was elected as first deputy chairman and Salah Ali as second deputy chairman.
All positions were filled in the absence of Al-Wefaq, the largest parliamentary bloc which boycotted both the inaugural session as well as today’s, objecting to the distribution of positions in the House of Representatives, the selection criteria adopted for the Shura Council and the return of Ahmed Attiyatallah to the cabinet as well as the refusal of the government to mount an investigation into the Bandargate scandal.

i think alwefaq will be dragging this country to a new era of havoc.
everything can be done in stages, they can’t just keep quite the entire time and jump few days before the inaugural session with these demands. i know the demands are legitimate and i know they have the rights to show thier concern regarding these issues.
but they can’t expect everything to be solved in few days.
they could have requested an investigation through the house of representatives, they could have get chairmanship or deputy chairman position through voting “which is the only possible mechanisim”…
I’m not bashing alwefaq, i really wanted to have more powerful voice from within the parlimant but not from outside.
All we we can wish for is a miracle to solve this issue…
” i know the demands are legitimate and i know they have the rights to show thier concern regarding these issues.”
Doesnt look like you know to be honest. Please don’t tell me you’re into the old mantra “resolving issues from the inside”?
How can assigning posts in this already castrated one-wheel parliment make you so sure they will be able to launch “investigations?”
AlWefaq are in the parliament, and remain as members of it.
Boycotting the opening session had more to do with showing the public what the Govt was up to rather than to tarnish the whole experience.
I guess sometimes we overlook things.
Check Alwefaq’s website for confirmation of this.
if they dont show up for 3 times in a row they get kicked out
That’s a rather simplistic way of looking at it nurox. Just don’t assume that you have all the answers all the time, believe me, you will be rudely surprised.
Mahmood, I should use quotes next time when i reply, like this one:
And this one:
Both to me threw the “assumption” that AlWefaq’s boycott was a permanent move.
So no need to get offended when there isn’t a point being made to offend anyone.
THE BOYCOTT IS OVER 😀

I disagree with Al Wefaq although I voted for them. They should have attended the inaugural ceremony.
Now the parliament is a mess.
Nurox, are you indirectly saying that Al Wefaq’s boycott of the opening session(s) was to save face? In essence, they’re beating around the bush with a “political statement”, then its back to normal life?
The Joker, read my latter comment, that’s what i was referring to.
As for your question on whether it was a face saving move or not, personally it’s hard to tell, but having them announce they’ll be attending the next day’s session, and within the same evening reports come out with regards to the BGate investigation being opened soon, i’d assume there was communication (direct or indirect) between AlWefaq and the Higher-Ups with regards to one of the main reasons behind them boycotting in the first place, unless it’s just one really amazing coincidence.
