First Bahraini woman cabinet minister enters the fray

Dr. Nada Abbas Haffadh the new Minister of Health in BahrainOk, not only do we have a somewhat functioning parliament in Bahrain, good social institutions (both for and against the government) but it was announced today that Dr. Nada Abbas Haffadh has been appointed to the post of Minister of Health. She is the first Arab woman to take on that mantle, and certainly the first Bahraini woman cabinet minister.

Sounds good. We’re going places now. Her priorities? Return calm to a turbulent ministry which suffered under Dr. Khalil Ibrahim Hassan. I really don’t know why, my take is the guy was shaking the ministry in trying to get it to function as a care giver to the public, rather than to fat individual doctors, but that’s another story, he’s out and she’s in. Dr Hassan just stayed for 16 months in his post, let’s see how long this one stays.

Her other priorities is to get all workers to smile again. Why? Is she hired as a performer to entertain them or an administrator to wipe out the rampant corruption at that most backward of ministries? She should bloody well concentrate on stamping out favourtism and get these doctors (killers more like) to toe the line and work to the benefit of the patients rather than fatten up their bank accounts. What she should do is categorically tell these jerks that if they want to get into private practice to bugger off and leave the public hospitals to able and sincere doctors who want to treat patients, rather than use it as their private bank.

Good luck Dr. Haffadh!
