New Phone – the K800i

I have succumbed.

I got the new Sony Ericsson K800i a few days ago when my friend Rami told me that MTC-Vodafone have a special offer on it. You sign a one year contract and you get it for BD127 rather than the retail price of BD179 or so. So I got it and I love it!

This is one of the pictures I have already taken with it (as I did the pill box below) and there are a few more pictures I have uploaded into my Flickr account. The camera is quite good at 3.2MP and the features are excellent too, especially the browser and it even has an excellent RSS reader!

Me happy cookie…

Nice shots! I haven’t been out in sunlight since I got my K800i (it gets dark at 4pm this time of year!) so I haven’t really played with the camera yet.

    Get the Sony Ericsson P990i
Its what I have and whatever you need is there:
Wi-Fi, USB connection, 2.0 MP camera with flash, GPRS, Edge, 3G, Touch screen usage AND normal keypad usage. RSS & Web browser, MP3 player and not to mention a business card reader! yes, I can easily put anyone’s name in my contacts by scanning thier card with my intelligent phone.

    Mahmood,
Yours doesn’t have WIFI. SE phones now adays split between walkman (music types) & cyber shots (camer types) you got the lovely cybershot model. Its probably the best camera phone there is now and congratulations. you’ll love it.

Thanks Redbelt. I have many friends who swear by the 990… personally I have gone off PIMMS since I’ve tried everything from the Newton (which I still have and it still works!) through to the various palms and whatnot.. gimmicks to me as I never used them for what they are supposed to be used for, but just mess around with them installing Linux on them and that sort of thing.

Therefore, buying a phone with a camera was a conscious decision since the K750i, that way I actually do use them for their camera (primarily) and of course as a communications device. This one with the RSS reader is brilliant.

Hey Mahmood.. you’ve got me heading to Fakhro electronic’s tomorrow to buy it .. Its been a while and I’ve got my eyes on this darling but I was really hesitant regarding purchasing the phone or not.. well apparently it works wonders for a picture freak like me =D

But I agree with Redbelt, the P990i is a piece of art if youre a heavyduty cell user.. but it won’t be my bargain, its too big of a phone :X

How many phones do you have now?

It seems like you get a new one every month or so! What happens to the old ones?

About the camera phones, I think Nokia has a new phone in their N-Series which has a 5 megapixel camera! They say that it can film DVD quality film! You have to ask yourself, is it a phone with a camera, or a camera with a phone?

If Nokia can produce a phone with DVD quality video…
    ……..
What happens to the companies that sell video and Cinema equipment worth thousends and thousend of dollars?

Its too good a claim for reality.

  9. chrisamillion

    Redbelt!

Slight correction to be made. I misquoted nokia! The say that the N93 can generate “DVD-Like Video”.

Still 30 frames a second at 5 megapixels isn’t bad, but I don’t think the hardcore camera companies are going out of business just yet!

  10. mahmood

Chris, the 5MP is for stills not video, and even then you will probably find the effective resolution interpolated. The video resolution is hardly 1/8th PAL so don’t get too excited about the brochure specs.

However Mahmood, Still Camera & Phone have really merged. I mean, professional equipment aside, T3 magazine recently compared pictures of similar priced units, camera & mobile-camera, and it turned out pretty much the same. You’ll just get a phone on the other end.
I know Samsung already have a 5MP camera-phone out. But don’t worry Mahmood, you’rs is still better with all of Sony’s camera expertise!

Thanx to Mahmood, I can now sinq my k800i with my Mac. .What a relief.
