First smart move of the day

They delayed the first parliamentary session in which all positions would have been chosen to Tuesday. The same day that the Shura is to choose their positions and committees.

This gives everyone a breather and I hope (yes, ever the optimist) that good will ensue.

Update 21:59 parliamentary press release announcing the rescheduling of the first session to next Tuesday:

There were plenty of Shi’a at the opening ceremony, there was not a single Wefaq member there though. And if you look at the list of MPs, you will notice that due to gerrymandering, there are 17 Shi’as (beige background) while there are 23 Sunnis in its make up considering that the Shi’a make up at least 60% of the population and assuming of course that voting would have been along sectarian lines, the majority in parliament should have distinctly been the other way around.

Ironically, Wefaq (+Abul) has gotten 62% of the vote which translated to 18 seats, while 35%, yes, 35% translated into 22 MPs!

Tell me, would you call the elections considering the above fair? Would you call them representational?

Anwar, the Akhbar Al-Khaleej supremo, had tough words to say about Wefaq not appearing. He even faulted delaying the matter till Tuesday! I wonder if he is right.

Hmmm… interesting how they all have their cell phone numbers listed – *evil smirk* (Getting flash backs of prank calls I used to make than got me grounded once the parents found out!)

Those I got from their electioneering websites or CVs. Republished here as they have become public domain, naturally.

I’m also very surprised that the election committee saw it fit to publish their individual CPR numbers (their CVs and pictures were named with their CPR numbers) which is information I used to find out what they owned as far as commercial registries are concerned. Again, public domain.

    Ibn,

Why call? Why not just show up and ask them to join me and discuss ideas over a nice glass of wine? They can wear their long beard. I’ll bring out my shortest, shiniest micro skirt … 😉

  7. mahmood

Nah, just ring them and wish them Marry Christmas and then stand back and watch the brown stuff hit the roof!

Immediately after that they will ban turkeys from Bahrain… but hang on a minute, wouldn’t that mean shooting themselves in the foot so to speak?!

  8. Ibn

hehehehe Mahmood, good one, good one! drum beat: ba da binsh!

And in the midst of all this madness, ill just get a fake beard and keep taking it off and on at the dinner table in front of them repeatedly saying “Now its sunnah… now its not… now its sunnah… now its not…” And JJ, a micro!? hehe – just promise me you’ll leave a little bit of “mystery” Jasra – everyone enjoys a challenge. 😉

A couple upside down keg-stands by Islamist MPs, followed by an intoxicating and blindfolded game of pin-the-beard-on-the-Islamist, and we’ll be in business! (or maybe our guests would prefer a pin-the-10foot-by-10-foot-black-burqa-on-the-evil-woman-busting-a-move-on-the-dance-floor-over-there theme.) Either way ya’ll! – paaartay!! woot! woot! lol! 😎

    -Ibn

  14. mahmood

Well, if we had good enough Internet connection that worked, we could have had this virtually. But with Batelco around.. no bloody chance.

  15. Thogba

Is it fair that Dahrani is the Chairman of the Parliament while Wefaq is the biggest mass?

And let’s be fair: Budaiya and Jasrah have one MP whereas the huge Duraz, Barbar, Bani Jamra and Markh have one MP?

    Racism.

The government wants the Sunni’s to be majority. They’re minority; nothing wrong with it.

Who made pressure on the government to bring democracy? Majority Shites and liberal Suinni’s.

Are Sunni’s brave enough to speak to government and say that the distribution of electing circles in Bahrain is unfair and BIASED towards Sunni muslims who are loyal to the family…

Liberal Sunni’s are not welcome by the government.. that’s why the government cheated and so Dr.Moneera, Ibrahim Sharif and Abdulrahman lost
