Rose-ringed parakeet

We normally have any number between 4 and 20 – sometimes it looks like more! – of these noisy but beautiful parakeets in our garden. They have made the eaves their home too, judging by the amount of water proofing material they rip up and throw down, as well as cement, wood and various other building material!

They also know where the water dish is, and if I’m early enough downstairs, I get treated to two or three of them bathing in it too!

They’re such a lovely sight and a welcome addition to our garden.

OOOH! We have them too. Mr. sleepy puts peanuts out for them in the morning, and I put a chopped apple out for them in the afternoon. They are big piggies. They squwak and bite each other for the privledge of sitting on the feeder hanging from the tree. Now if I could only figure out how NOT to attract pidgeons too….stupid flying rats.

What we did is get a short (50cm high) column/pedestal and placed a shallow dish on top which Frances fills every day with special “parrot mix” which also contains stuff for the other birds and they all share.. not always nicely, but we enjoy watching them feed!

Thanks again, Mahmood. I almost saved this to my “Animals” folder. However, I realized where this pic is from and saved it to “Flowers.”

I am going to make a folder entitled “Mahmood” and move your pics to there. If I ever use any of your pics, like on MySpace or something, I want to make sure that I give credit to the photographer/gardener.
