Khaled-the-knife

Rarely do I enjoy commentary like that of Khaled Al-Mutawwa of Al-Wasat. His studied acerbic style cuts through the chaff and gets to the crux of the issue in a language few of his fellow columnists master.

Today, his forthright and deep analysis was put to good use to serve some rather sour-tasting medicine to two deserving MPs. He takes them to task and lays down a challenge that neither are man enough to step up to.

He challenges them to resign, the first is due to his belated realisation that our Constitution stifles parliamentary work, oversight in particular – putting him in the very trench traditionally occupied by the opposition, personified by Hassan Mushaimi’; while the other for his hypocrisy and that of his crew.

I hope they’re listening Khaled, but I won’t hold my breath. What I will say; however, is that articles like yours, sir, are at the vanguard, forcing people to open their eyes not only to see the ills these people have brought on us, but more importantly to show them the vast opportunities passing us by because of those whom we have put our misguided trust to represent us.

النائب بوصندل قد يكون مدركا أنه لا مناص من الاستحياء من مواصلة خداع الناس واستغفالهم بـ «درازن» من الوعود وأطنان من الأحلام الانتخابية مهما كانت النية من الانخراط غير المجدي في العملية البرلمانية، فلم يكن العدل أبدا أساسا في هذا الحكم التشريعي المكبل، ولا عدل أساسا ولا سلطة ولا حكما تشريعيا، وإنما هو تشريع لخرائط السلطة ولـ «أجندات» الحكومة أولا وأخيرا!
