Preacher suspended

The GDN this morning tells us that a mosque preacher in Busaiteen in the island of Muharraq, a hotbed of Wahabi culture, has been suspended due to a sermon he preached about Zionism and “Sectarian Issues” on the front page in the “World this morning” column:

Preacher suspended
MANAMA: A cleric was reportedly suspended yesterday by the Islamic Affairs Ministry for remarks allegedly made during a mosque sermon on Friday about Zionism and sectarianism in the region. Shaikh Nasser Al Fadalah made the remarks at Busaiteen Mosque, Islamic Affairs Undersecretary Dr. Farid Muftah told our Arabic sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej.

I couldn’t find any other corroborating references in other papers and don’t know what the contents of his sermon was. I would love to have a transcript. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Having a kind of control on what is being preached in mosques is a step ahead in the process of eradicating extremism from the Bahraini society. What bothers me is the mechanism used in implementing that control as reported in today’s Al Wasat

This control method could be abused as long as there is no clear mechanism to guide its implementation.

Mahmood asks if anyone can shed some light on GDN’s article (PDF) about a Bahraini mosque preacher (Imam) in Muharraq, who has been suspended due to a sermon he preached about Zionism and “Sectarian Issues”.

    Woah.

I’d be very surprised to see what sort of sermon that is. If it was extreme for the Wahabbis, it must be fine reading material for normal people.

    Or..

It could be that even Wahabbi’s were sickened by it, which .. I’d still like to read.
