Saudi beats Bahrain GNP wise .. but not GNP/ capita. Their population explosion has made the average Saudi much poorer than they were even 10 years ago.
Thats why there are alot of angry Saudi kids running around with a mission and a vengeance willing to be recruited. I firmly beleive that Saudi problem does not stem from Islam as much as it does from the fact that the average Saudi does not have great economic prospects. The fact that Al Qaeda are able to recruit a stastically significant amount of Saudis says more about the mindset of young Saudis today then it does about the ‘selling’ point of the terrorists.
No future+ no dignity+ no jobs + increased poverty + astute opposition political ‘leadership’ = increased violence that will one day turn to Suicide Bombing.
Thats why the region needs ecnomic reform. And it needs it now.

To create you own entreprenurial class, you need effective regulations in the country that allow for DFI, transaparancy, protection (without the need for a sponsor), relative cheap access to capital, etc.
Its about the structure of the economy methinks.

i think it’s realistic. i certainly think Bahrain is a very rich country compared to 98% of the world. i mean just look at the majority of families. most of them have more than one car! of course Bahrainis don’t have much choice, since public transport sucks big time!
