Here’s another candidate for “the wheel is turning but the hamster is dead” society:
Abdullatif Al Shaikh a leading MP said that fashion shows are undermining Islam and should be banned in Bahrain. He added catwalk is “spreading indecency” and is a setback to family tourism.
Ministers who lend their support to such events could be summoned before parliament, he said. His comments were made following a fashion show held last Thursday at Marina Mall to celebrate the Mothercare Group’s 30th anniversary. Eight models kitted out by Sarah’s Secret took part in the show, which featured casual, formal and night clothes. But Mr Al Shaikh, who also represents Al Menbar National Islamic Society, is demanding an end to such events – especially in public places. “We can’t understand how organisers were given the green light to publicly announce such events, never mind hold them,” Mr Al Shaikh told the GDN yesterday. “It is the job of the Commerce Ministry and Tourism Affairs to ensure that such unacceptable acts aren’t being held in public places.” Textile News
I don’t think that this guy even owns or watches TV. Because should he have done so, he would have seen far worse images even in heavily cencored Saudi TV.
FASHION industry representatives have hit back at claims that catwalk models are un-Islamic and a threat to Bahraini culture.
Models and fashion show organisers deny that they are flaunting their bodies – and tradition. They were responding to criticism by Bahraini MP Abdullatif Al Shaikh, who has claimed that public fashion shows are immoral. He described the Mothercare Group’s30 th anniversary celebrations last Thursday, which featured catwalk models, as a danger to family tourism. But a company spokesman yesterday denied that such events were “spreading indecency”. “Mothercare is a Bahrain-based group that started 30 years ago,” said marketing executive Zafar Ali. “For all those years it has been respecting Bahraini culture. “What the MP describes as indecent clothes is what is normally worn – some people dress up even worse.” GDN
Is this another cheap attempt to get his name in the papers and appear oh so pious? You bet!
Here’s my suggestion: concentrate on things that matter rather than wasting our time bozo. So this guy is now the second member of the newly formed TWITBTHID society… any more candidates? Please let me know!
