My daughter Amna is learning the cello and her music instructor – Mr. Rajan is an active member of the church community in Bahrain. So when he asked us our permission to get amna to play the cello at the pre-Christmas service at the National Evangelical Church of Bahrain, we immediately agreed. [1] it is good public experience for her, [2] it’s good to share your community joy, and [3] it was my old school’s church!
God I haven’t been to church for a very long time! I went to church as part of my education in my very first school, the Sacred Heart School, then because I didn’t know enough Arabic, my dad moved me into the American Mission School (now called Al-Raja). So I’m familiar with church services and functions. It was great, not only did we learn about Islam, we learned about Christianity as well, both Catholic and Protestant!
But we both thought that it would take just about half an hour or so and we’re out of there. Oh no, we attended the FULL service. I even sang some of the hymns as they had them projected on a large screen! There’s no much difference between Islam and Christianity on the surface at least. Both preach the word of God, both appear tolerant and both want to help people connect with themselves and God.
I enjoyed it. I was uncomfortable at first, but then I just went with it. And you know me, I just HAD to sit at the front! A better place to take some pictures.
That was a good and an enjoyable experience.
Merry Christmas all!

Church
Ah, so you are a fellow SHS “alum”…do you have any pics to share of life at the old school? I graduated from there in 95, a good few years after they moved the senior school to manama.
Re: Church
man they didn’t invent cameras back then, so I don’t have any pictures unfortunately! 🙂
