Bahrain last night released without charge six Bahrainis detained on Tuesday on suspicion of plotting terrorism in the kingdom, the attorney general said. “No charges have been pressed against any of the accused. They have all been released without charge,” said Sharif Shadi, after a 45-minute hearing.
Counsel for one of the accused, Abdullah Hashim, said that the decision followed the failure of the prosecution to turn up any evidence of wrongdoing.
“No weapons and no dangerous materials were found either in their own homes or those of their friends or relatives,” he said.
Interior Minister Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa had announced the arrests on Tuesday, saying the men had planned to carry out “dangerous acts targeting citizens and property by using dangerous materials”.
