Guys, you owe it to yourself to try out and Firefox!, the most standards compliant browser out there which is fast, reliable and full of features. I have always designed my sites with Mozilla in mind first, and then that other piece of junk you call Internet Explorer. Now the Mozilla project has ripped out the browser component off and created something of true beauty: FireFox.
It’s free and small to download, so go ahead and Get Firefox!, what’re you waiting for? You’re guaranteed to view mahmood.tv in the best light possible! Forget that crappy, security-holed and riddled browser from Mr. Bill Gates, this one is the real deal!

update: Damn, 1 million downloads in 100 hours… is this a fantastic adoption rate or what?

Ok Mahmood, I accepted your challenge, waited the entire 27 seconds it took to download. 30 seconds (if that) to install and now I will play around with it and see what FIREFOX is about.
What is you like about FIREFOX? Besides the security issues. That alone should be enough to make anyone dump IE.
Re: Ignite the web!
one of the most valuable thing it offers you (like Mozilla) is the tabbed browsing. Point to any link on the page and click the middle mouse button and another tab opens up with the content IN THE SAME browser window, rather than pop open a completely new window!
The ability to have your home page open up any number of “home” sites you like, just add a “pipe” (| – vertical line) character between the pages and whenever you open Firefox, ALL of the sites are loaded at once, each to a tab.
The ability to REALLY be able to configure you bookmarks.
Mouse Gestures plug-in! You’ve got to see it to believe it, forget about going all over the place to menus etc to do what you want, just a middle mouse button click and a “compass” or gestural menu opens for almost all the functions you need. This was borrowed from Alias|Wavefront Maya’s gestural menus, it is completely and absolutely invaluable time-saver.
And several more! How about the gmail notifier? What about image zoom? What about copying plain text and what about all the other FREE extentions which are available for FireFox?
Mark, believe me if you spend an hour or two with FireFox, you will never look at IE again, and that is guaranteed!
Re: Ignite the web!
oh, and it automagically imports all of your settings from your previous browser so that you don’t lose any time at all in geting on to your favourite sites! Forgot about this one, it’s new in version 1 and it is yet another time saver!

I will spend some time playing with it that is for sure. Right now I am winding things down and packing my bags. I can taste Grill Land from here..
Re: Ignite the web!
ok, tell me when you’ll be over so I can pack my bags and escape! 😆

Yep, I’ve been using it since June. It’s excellent. I particularly like the tabbed browsing. I’m not using all the features yet but I’ll get around to them. It has only puked on me once, requiring a reboot of the machine.
I’ve also almost forgotten what a pop-up looks like.

Firefox is absolutely amazing. I had a spyware/adware/crapware ridden laptop at home and this was despite having Norton AntiVirus and a Netgear Firewall installed!
It’s fast, has a great popup blocker and I particularly love the RSS/Live Bookmarks integration.
Die IE Die!!
Re: Ignite the web!
Ah, now that you’ve regained your laptop, do you think you can send me some pictures of the 2nd monkey? Or do I have to wait ’til the end of this month and take them myself? 🙂
I’ll be in Cambridge from Oct 23rd for a couple of days, then prepare a bed for me from Oct 26 – 30! I am determined to see my new niece! Congrats once again and give her a kiss from all of us here!
Ignite the web!
I’ll forward on a few photos when Dana was 1 day old… the rest are trapped in my camera!
Look forward to seeing you and you’re coming for my birthday as well!
Re: Ignite the web!
errrmmm, yeah I know, that was completely by design! 😆
looking forward to the pictures..

you could also use Netscape’s newest browser, 7.1
its built from the very same Mozilla Project and contains all the same.. if not more features.. not too sure about the availablity of plugins and whether or not they are free, but the Netscape browser itself is free.
(the people who created firefox.. used to all work for netscape)
I still recommend FireFox, as it is much smaller and lighter, but if you are after that ‘Commercialized’ feel, you can’t go wrong with Netscape 7.1
enjoy
