In love with a song…

I’m so in love with this song that it is unbelievable. Didn’t you ever come across a piece of music that completely took away your breath? That made you feel like a better person? Well this song by Natasha St-Pier does. And more. Extremely highly recommended album.

I would love to know which song, opera, piece of music affected you as profoundly? Leave a comment please….

    In love with a song…

Pink Floyd’s “wish you were here”.. If i’m driving alone in my car i’ll burst into tears listening to it.

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s love songs album gives me goose bumps.

Mohammad Abdu’s “majmoo3at insan”.. (and I don’t even like that guy)

Bill Withers’ “soul shadows”.. mm.. actually Bill Withers’ anything.

(A way-off-topic question: How come Bahrinis are active people and Kuwaitis are not? What’s your secret?)

Ellen will probably be interested in Mahmood’s recently recommended music choice, and I suppose so will most everyone else into "international" music. The snippet he linked sounds a lot like the other stuff she has, at any rate. More…

    In love with a song…

There’s a very short song by Kate Bush, a b-side, called “Under the Ivy”. I don’t know what it is about that song but everytime I hear it I feel as if I’ve just walked through an old door into a magical and mysterious world.

    In love with a song…

Well for me, Dvorak’s Russalka, and her Song to the Moon , especially the Lucia Popp version…

..oh wait, then there is “Au Front du Temple Saint” from The Pearl Fishers (Bizet)….

hang on!. Then there’s “Thank Heaven, for little girls” (Maurice Chevalier) from the show Gigi. And the old folks romantic duet from the same show….

    then there’s My Fair Lady…
“….tra la la, on the street where you live. Oh! the towering feeling, just to know, somehow you are near, the overpowering feeling, that any second you might suddenly appear (dee dee dee dee dee)…”

… “Ah, shaddup-a you face!” (Joe Dolci) rounds it all off rather nicely I think.

    It could be worse.
    Just not much worse…

    In love with a song…

It’s obscure, but my favorite song for making myself feel better is ‘The Mary Ellen Carter’ by Stan Rogers. It’s about a group of friends who lose their ship and go about raising it again. One of the lyrics goes like this:

    No matter what you’ve lost
    be it
    a home
    a love
    a friend
let the Mary Ellen Carter rise again

    Put out all your strength
    of arm
    of heart
    of brain
and let the Mary Ellen Carter rise again

    Re: new comment format

Thanks for noticing and commenting! At last I had some time on my hands to do something about it, and because I (sometimes) have to wear reading-glasses now (hold the jokes!) I found the font too small so had to do something about that too!
