QuixotiQ book signing

Just back from the QuixotiQ book signing at Booksplus at the Seef Mall where I met with Ali Al-Saeed.

Ali was very composed I thought, but a tad nervous. You probably can read about his experiences on his own blog.

Anyway the Minister of Information, who was sponsoring the event, arrived a few minutes late, the TV cameras and press flashes went off like Nicole Kidman has just arrived!

Ali’s parents were looking particularly proud and had to take just one more picture with this or that in it. At that point I disengaged myself and went into the bookshop where I got the new issue of Linux Magazine and the latest John Grisham: The Last Juror.

After the minister and other dignitories have left, I emerged from the bookshop and stood in the queue to get my copy signed. I did introduce myself to Ali when I first came, but left him to it to take care of the dignitories and his fans.

Ali was good enough to sign my copy; thank you Ali and I wish you all the success you can handle and a little more!

Thank you for the kind words Mahmood and it was real pleasure meeting you in person, though I’d love to get a chance to sit and talk a little more… perhaps once you finish reading the book? (It’s a shame Mark couldn’t make it, he said he would love to attend.)

On another note, I’ve read six of Grisham’s novels, the last being A Painted House. I’ve since missed on 3 of his latest novels. I’m not sure, to be honest, if I’m missing much! Let me know if that’s a good one will ya?

    Re: QuixotiQ book signing

I think Painted House was one of his worst. And like you, I almost stopped reading him after that one. I’m not sure about the new novel as I haven’t read it yet.

Frances tells me that I have to widen my reading material, all I have now are either Wilbur Smith or Grisham (and now Ali Al-Saeed!), so I have to just go into a bookshop and blindly pick something to add to the list, she say I might like what I pick.

I don’t just have Smith, Grisham and Saeed, I do have, errm, errrm, Fredrick Forsyth, erm, errrm, can’t remember that other bloke. Generally I tend to stick to adventure stuff, good for a few pages before zonking out at the end of the day…

I’d like to sit down and chat with you Ali, in fact we can have just that opportunity on Nov 4, click here for details and please sign up. It’s just a couple of hours or so of meeting new people whom you might get to like!
