I’ve finally have had time this afternoon to muck around with the movies we shot during our fantastic holiday in Canada in July. As I didn’t go to the office (the whole of Bahrain is closed in respect and mourning for Shaikh Zayed who passed away last night) I thought I might as well invest my time doing something worthwhile.
First, I digitised the first tape (out of 10!) and did the first edit. This one is about our visit to the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO). That done, I proceeded to download, install and configure the free, open source helix server on my linux box.

duration: 1m33s :: WMV :: MP4
I’m not sure how many final movie clips there are going to be – and hopefully I’ll finish them before our next holiday – but I’ll put them up as I finish them.
Now as Helix is the open source project based on Real Networks, at the moment it is only configured to stream Real Media type files, there are plugins available for it to enable the serving of other formats, thought I haven’t figured out how to do that yet. So for the moment, you will be able to view the movies served diretly by Helix in the form of Real Media, or alternately download and play the MPEG-4 and Microsoft WMV formats offline.
Enjoy!

I think you need to head over to the US this winter for some ski slope time….. That should make for some GREAT video…..
