It must be that time of the year again, Frances started baking gingerbread cookies, and the turkey (aptly named George!) is in the freezer!

An Arab man's attempt at bridging the cultural gap and trying to make a difference. Failing a lot. Succeeding once in a while.

The harbingers of Christmas
I suppose I could call my turkey Kerry, but by Christmas nobody will remember who that was.

The harbingers of Christmas
Talk about someone whose GOOSE has been cooked and won’t admit it! JFK JR!!! Steve that is too funny!!!! Thanks for the laugh this morning!
Re: The harbingers of Christmas
Yup, it’s one of the few things I can agree with Steve on. Kerry was a sorry excuse for a candidate. What were the Demos thinking? Turkey shawarma anyone?
The harbingers of Christmas
I thought you were Muslim?
Or is it like a lot of my Jewish friends, the consumer colossus that is Xmas in America is unescapable, even in Bahrain?

OP
You might be surprised but Christmas in the US is a SECULAR holiday by law. Granted it has strong religious overtones but it is a Federal Secular holiday.
Re: The harbingers of Christmas
Well, you know, BMark, Xmas is pretty Christian. There’s no getting away from that, even if you wanted to. But you’re right in that it seems to be morphing into a secular holiday like Thanksgiving. Saint Nicholas has been changed into Santa Claus who lives at the North Pole. I don’t think the nuns at my old parochial school would approve of the North Pole twist on the story but then there’s a lot of things they disapproved of which I enjoy quite thoroughly.

Re: The harbingers of Christmas
What a weak faith you profess if it is threatened by gingerbread cookies. Here in America, all religious holidays are celebrated openly. People invite each other to their celebrations whatever their religion. For me, I don’t care too much what religion is throwing the party as long as there is free food. American tolerance and openness is why we are free, prosperous, and strong. Islamic intolerance and closemindedness is why you are oppressed, poor, and weak.
When the US Post Office issued a postage stamp celebrating Eid, you didn’t see Americans whining like weaklings about it. Why are you whining, frightened by a turkey? Your backward attitude hobbles your world, keeping it far behind in the dust of the advanced civilizations as they march toward the future.

Re: The harbingers of Christmas
I am! But one who believes that Allah is not exclusive to us. And as Christianity is his religion as well, why not celebrate it?
Welcome!
