The internet access has been crap all day long. Thankfully I was out of the office most of that day that I didn’t much feel it, but when I came back my blood pressure shot up because everything is crawling. Batelco is keeping me from visiting my friends.
The fault, according to Batelco’s inet helpdesk is not theirs at all, it is due to a break of a cable between Saudi and Jordan. What the hell do I care where a break is, the whole idea of the internet is redundancy WITHOUT compromising quality. So Batelco now depends on its intirety on a single link to the internet backbone? With it being the ONLY provider, and with the literally MILLIONS they have siphoned off us users throughout our lives, you would think they would have an iota of decency and get the bloody access sorted once and for all.
Bastards. Tony, get up and shit on someone to get this fixed quick will you?

The unreliability of Batelco is NEVER their fault
Bad day huh? Don’t feel bad it is not just you. It is CRAWLING on the East Coast. Dial Up and Cable are both dragging. Opps! It is after 12:00 pm.. Time for a BEER!
The unreliability of Batelco is NEVER their fault
Batelco will have a new internet competitor next year when Bahrain’s 2nd ISP launches their services…..:-)
Probably must people know who they are, but for those who don’t the new ISP is ‘Fast Lite Communications’ – more on that when the time draws nearer….. 😀
Cheers~
The unreliability of Batelco is NEVER their fault
It seems as though the link is back up again now, but it was pretty annoying before.
Not to worry though, there is hope. The newly formed Telecom Regulatory Authority has already issued seven new ISP licences. They are to:
MTC- Vodafone Bahrain
Gateway Gulf Internet
Tasameem
ANIS(Arabian Network Information Services W.L.L)
2CONNECT W.L.L
LIGHTSPEED COMMUNICATIONS W.L.L.
Mena Broadband Services W.L.L.
Do you know anything about these companies and when they will have their ISPs up and running? I hope it’s soon.
The unreliability of Batelco is NEVER their fault
Mena is in NBB tower (tel: 17200022), and they claim they started operations. They said they can install within a 1 day notice. They use 2-way satellite:

I have requested their pricing, I’ll post back if it’s anything reasonable.
The unreliability of Batelco is NEVER their fault
Ok, Mena is definitely not for home users. Claim to be more reliable than Batelco and have lower latency (! satellite). Their download speed ranges from 512kbps upto 4Mbps with a maximum of 512kbps upload. Prices range greatly depending on contention rate (50:1, 20:1 10:1 or even 1:1!).
Re: The unreliability of Batelco is NEVER their fault
Actually, its not only Batelco’s fault. Anyone who says Bahrain is a fully deregulated market only knows half the story. If it was fully deregulated, all you guys would have had fast internet access from us since bloody Sept, 2004.
That was the plan. Now… well, we are only Launching corporate service and waiting until the TRA deems it an appropriate time to implement a regulation on spectrum allocation. In the mean time, we are spending money and of course, with no income, loosing it…
And on the subject of allocation: We’ve asked them for this since March 2004. We where the first. And we are still waiting. They made promises, they made statements, and then… Well, they say they have not thought of it before and so now they need another god knows how long to study it.
Bad day? yep… More like a bad YEAR though. Still, we’ll eventually get there and eventually all you people will have something reliable from a company that does NOT make you pay when the service is down.
Regards,
Fahad.
