The Tree is Up!

Yes it is. Amna, Arif and I put up the tree this morning officially initiating the Christmas season at our house. Needless to say that while we were putting up the tree, Frances and Hanan were out shopping for Christman pressies!

Happy Christmas everyone (starting early this year!) 🙂

    The Tree is Up!

Picture #10 of Mahmood and Arif needs to be titled “Homer and Bart put up the tree”

Anyone who watches “The Simpson’s” will understand!

Now how much snow did you want Mahmood?

    Yep, you’re right!

But we are also specialists each with their own job, so Arif and I wouldn’t dare decorate the tree because that’s Hanan and Frances’ job as they are much better. This is like work in progress, we came back home after lunch and this is what Frances has done with it so far, and now we even have the Christmas music reverberating through the house!

What’s missing is mulled wine and I don’t think that is going to be too far into the future!

and this is what the final result looks like, without the pressies at the bottom yet though…

    The Tree is Up!

Awwww, how cute…yeah, you definitely are starting early, aren’t you? Just be sure to keep that tree watered on a constant basis! Otherwise…*PFOOOOF!* (Quick! Call the fire department!)

BTW, is Christmas an “accepted” holiday in Bahrain (whatever that means)? Or perhaps the proper word is “tolerated”?

My family still puts our tree up just a few days before Christmas–we always get a beautiful Blue Spruce tree (which has needles like a porcupine’s–OUCH! We literally need to wear gloves and jackets when we put it up!), and we put real candles on it. Now I know, you’re thinking, “Are these people CRAZY?!?”, but no, we’re not…we always get these very efficient dripless candles from Sweden (my Dad is Swedish), which ensure that the tree won’t catch fire, as long as we watch the candles carefully when they’re almost totally burnt out. We’ve been doing it this way for 30-plus years, so somebody must be doing something right…

So Mahmood, I wonder, what do you want Santa to bring YOU this yeah, hmmmm? Outside of a government with at least an ounce of sanity, of course…

    Re: The Tree is Up!

Accepted and tolerated, maybe, but not according to a prick who sent me an anonymous email berating me for doing so and accusing me of being a non-muslim. That’s expected I guess, they live in their own world which never left the 7th century and we live in ours. So yes, to answer your question it is mostly tolerated.

As to what I want for christmas, it’s a bit difficult to decide as I normally don’t wait for an occasion to go out and buy toys, which pisses my wife and kids no end because they are completely at a loss when christmas or birthday time comes!

Lesseee.. how about an LCD large-screen TV and a new surround system? hmmm, are you listening Frances!? 😉

    The Tree is (STILL!) Up!

“That’s expected I guess, they live in their own world which never left the 7th century and we live in ours.”

LOLOL…I can think of more than a few “Good Christians” who probably live just next door to the 7th century pricks you describe so well! It just goes to show, ignorance truly knows no boundaries, religious, national or whatever, eh?

And BTW, your thirst for toys seems positively American at times! And believe me, that’s not a knock against my countrymen, nor a compliment, just a neutral observation! After all, the Japanese aren’t the only ones snapping up all the PlayStations and portable DVD players, right?? (BTW, out of complete curiosity, what are some of your favorite movies…or do you have any?)
