Oh believe it Sume, they had Klingon in the original version of this lovely picture, but NO ARABIC! Had to fix that, so out came my trusty Adobe Photoshop Elements and Google! Funny that…

Re: Season’s Greetings (ok, Merry Christmas!)

Heh, never have and never will base any decision of mine on what Al-Saidi and co might think or do! And Christmas is far too good an opportunity to miss for a good piss-up! 😀

Re(1): Season’s Greetings (ok, Merry Christmas!)

I think we should start a campaign of sending Christmas and Channukah greetings to Saidi and co. via SMS. That should really piss him off.

    Season’s Greetings (ok, Merry Christmas!)

Happy Christmas to all, and good health, success and prosperity to all friends of the Den for 2005. Special good wishes to Mahmood and Frances, all the bairns, Mahmoods Mam, Dad and Brother, and not forgetting Gnasher and Phoebe. (Mahmood, did you get your Dad to give up the dreaded ciggies? New Years resolutions in the offing…)

Re(2): Season’s Greetings (ok, Merry Christmas!)

What? Make Batelco richer? No way.
All we have to do is organise a street party somewhere in a village and invite Rubi and Nancy Ajram to it.
We get more entertainment this way and keep the lazy police busy.
Boy, I love it when they throw their expired tear gas cansters at the mob and the village boys throw it right back at the riot police.
Thanks to Saeedi and his Hairy Men, there have been no concerts in Bahrain at all.
Any idea on how to go about organising a rock concert? Maybe MP Khalid’s devil worshippers will come out and join the festive spirit as well!

Re: Season’s Greetings (ok, Merry Christmas!)

Thanks Meggie and same to you and yours.

As for dad giving up cancer sticks? no way! I’ve suggested, but all he says is that ‘he’s at the end of his days, so leave him be with his “friends”‘ I am convinced that more than diabeties which he suffers from, the various ailments he suffers from are directly related to smoking. Seeing him like this more than anything else convinced me that I don’t want to end up like him. And he’s only 63 or so.

Re(3): Season’s Greetings (ok, Merry Christmas!)

hehe! Last year I was approached to organise a Jazz Festival in Bahrain. I took a few baby-steps but when I realised that I could lose all the money I would put in (quite a lot) when someone has yet another brain-fart in parliament and decide once again to “protect the high morals of society” I said screw it. It would have been a good 3 day festival which would have brought in probably half of the Saudi-based expats over as well!

My roommate Lauren sent out “Christmakkuah” cards this year that blended the best of both holidays.

Merry Christmas Mahmood & to everyone in this den of his :D….. btw… i just heard some good news from a couple of UOB students…. despite Al-Saidi & Co’s supposedly strong campaign there isn’t gonna’ be any gender segregation at uob after all those protests were organized on campus…. can anyone confirm this? 🙂

Oh yea.. and if anyone’s interested in hittong a rock concert next year, be sure to chk out FVF 2005(Friendly Violent Fun) happening in March where most of the bands who will be playing are from Saudi Arabia, a couple from Bahrain and a few here and there from Oman and Kuwait…the organizers were still awaiting news of a band from Qatar & UAE as i heard the last time…. the venue is as of now Palace Inn where it was staged during the middle of this year…. despite a couple of covers that mightbe played … Sound of Ruby (Saudi Arabia) & Motor Miltia (Bahrain) are set to be strumming away some of their singles from the 2nd album to be released in Summer next year.. somewhere between here and the US 😀

Hope to be seeing more of Nancy 3ajram & Ruby concerts in the near future at this new mall being built near the causeway…. 😉

    Season’s Greetings (ok, Merry Christmas!)

Happy Holidays to all! Eid is coming up here soon as well, so I know at my house we will be eating sambusek, ruz bukhari, kunafa, all of the like. I love Middle Eastern food. I think people miss out if they think that Middle Eastern food is nothnig more than the usual fare you find at Lebanese or Palestinians places. Some of the best food I have eaten doesnt come from either place, or are regional takes on other people’s food. My favourite food cooked by my wife is a dish called “seligah”, which no one I have met outside of Saudi or Yemen know it, or the way her family makes foul(fava beans) normally thought of as an Egyptian dish. They grind it into a paste, and then before it is cooked place a small piece of foil in the bowl, put olive oil in it and then place a lit piece of charcoal, like the type used for incense in the oil, then cover it for like five minutes. Comes out very smokey and nice!

    Christmas on Radio Bahrain!

Hey they’ve started playing Christmas songs on the radio this morning, THREE WHOLE DAYS before Christmas!

The Salafis must be asleep or abjectly humbled or defeated or deaf. Take you pick!

Me, I’ve switched on the air conditioning and put it on max in the office to keep up with the spirit 😀

    Season’s Greetings (ok, Merry Christmas!)

Have a great Christmas, you and all your family. I really enjoyed your blogs. It gives me great hope for the future of the world in general (and your bit of it in particular) that there are decent, humane, free thinking people like you out there. If you represent the way things are going in the arab world the future is bright. I just hope your views represent those of at least a significant minority because what we hear about the deeds of your co-religionists often paints a pretty bleak picture. Do you think there is anything like a kind of Muslim reformation welling up out there? Like you say I find it incredible that half the population(the female half) have put up with this kid of oppression for so long. If the Muslim world can’t get its act together in this respect it’s doomed to lag behind the rest of the world in the future. The artistic, economic and intellectual potential of one half of the entire population is held in check by the other.
