SEGREGATION of university students would signal a “return to the dark ages”, say some of Bahrain’s leading businessmen and intellectuals.
Men who favour it should stay at home and let women “out into the light”, says Al Muntada (The Forum) chairman Adel Fakhro.
The forum, a think-tank created by a group of businessmen and intellectuals, meets regularly to discuss political, social and economic issues in Bahrain.
Members met at the Gulf Hotel to discuss the proposal put by some members of Parliament to segregate male and femal students at Bahrain University.
Some said that such a move would be disastrous for Bahrain and could even lead to calls for segregation in the workplace and public areas.
Mr Fakhro said that segregation would infringe on the basic human rights of women.
