Students and staff were sent home this morning after the Bahrain Bayan School received a definite bomb threat.
Al-Jazeera has reported that the Bahrain security forces have found and defused one bomb at the school.
No further information is available at the moment.

Re: Bomb threat at Bahrain Bayan School
But you can’t take threats lightly. You’ve got to act on them and this is apparently what happened today, the threat was taken seriously and acted upon.
There is still not denial nor confirmation that they found and defused an explosive device. And of course no mention whatsoever of the incident in the local radio or television (HIDE, and people will forget about the problem!)
The Bahrain Bayan School is one of the premier private schools which is attended by the higher crust of society.

Indeed, everytime it happens at the Saudi Academy the FBI and local police are called in.
Bomb threat at Bahrain Bayan School
Considering the number of false alerts and the broadcast any old thing approach of much of the local media, I’d be very sceptical about this.
Bomb threat at Bahrain Bayan School
I left Bahrain School in Juffair three years ago. Bomb threats were quite common and were usually called in over the phone. Bahrain Schools being run by the US DoD and exactly ajacent to the base, took these threats very seriously. It would take approximately 3-4 hours for the whole school to be searched with the marine k-9 unit and then declared safe.
Nine out of ten times, these telephonic bomb threats were made by students of other schools in the country who had calibrated the time and nature of the call with someone studying in the school itself. – As for shedding light on the Bayan School threat this morning, I definately know there was a bomb threat made (I got a text from a friend who studys at Bayan), but i don’t think anything was found. It will probably turn out to be a hoax.
Bomb threat at Bahrain Bayan School
Yeah, calling in bomb threats and setting off the fire alarm has been a tradition among students of many of the private schools here. But obviously after recent events in the neighbourhood, the staff and the security have no choice but to take the threats seriously now more than before.
Bomb threat at Bahrain Bayan School
Al-Hurra radio just reported that the Bahraini authorities denied having found two explosive devices at the school. So at last there is government reaction.
I hope it is a hoax.
However I wouldn’t mind the board of directors of St. Christopher’s school planning and upgrading the buildings/windows/security to deal with such a threat. As the headmaster of the British School in Qatar said, it is “the best 100,000 pounds he has ever spent” and I agree with him.
I have three children there and like other parents, I want them to be safe.
Re: Bomb threat at Bahrain Bayan School
I think the state should subsidise such things. I know at some various area mosques and synagogues they have recieved federal monies to help pay for security systems. At the mosque I usually attend for Salat al Jummah, the guards there, members of the mosque, have been trained and carry firearms.
Sad state of affairs when people have to enact such measures.
Re(1): Bomb threat at Bahrain Bayan School
Bayan School is attended by Arabs mainly. Of Christian religion or Suni and Shia Muslims. But as Mahmood said, Bayan School is for the upper crust of society just like the other private schools.
Re: Bomb threat at Bahrain Bayan School
Hah I am quite skeptical because Bayan students have a reputation for pulling atrocious ‘stunts’ such as this in their school.
However, precautions should still be taken just in case.
Bomb threat at Bahrain Bayan School
I am a student in bayan school, it is true we have been sent home earlier this morning due to a ‘bomb threat’. however, this is unbelievable… its been said that the directors office blew up and another bomb had been found by the gym… Others say the director died. I personally do not believe anything. it is probably a prank although the schools board must take the matter in serious consideration. Parents of surronding schools came to pick up their kids from school after hearing about the bomb at Bahrain Bayan School. After the bomb attack in Qatar anything is possible! I just hope nothing happens to the school
Bomb threat at Bahrain Bayan School
I feel sorry for you guys. You’ve been left in the dark. Whenever we’ve had a bomb threat in Bahrain school, all the parents are notified in writing the very same day explaining why – when – and how. That ensures speculation and rumours do not start as they have done with your school already. π
Bomb threat at Bahrain Bayan School
Well, bomb threats have been typical in Bahrain School (nothin new there), but I suppose Bayan is now tasting some of the action. It’s not good and it’s very serious, especially the timing of this one. Schools need to install metal detectors now for students to pass by, this might sound crazy but with all those threats and possible attacks, this sounds logical. When I was at school (Ibn Khuldoon National School), anyone can pass by into the school easily and same with Bayan, just one guy checkin at each gate, while Bahrain school had gates, barb wires, marines with snipers, entry with CPR for non-students, etc. and I can understand why.
Bomb threat at Bahrain Bayan School
I must stress that at the moment this information is NOT complete. I couldn’t find a reference to confirm or refute this on any news source. However, my wife dropping the kids at school this morning did notice road blocks at the Bayan school and kids were sent home. This afternoon two “swat” team black marias where parked in front of St. Christopher’s school.
Can anyone shed any extra light on this?
Bomb threat at Bahrain Bayan School
Is this a school for Westerners or one that a lot of Westerners attend? What wouled be the insane motivation for such a thing?
We had a recent bomb threat here at the Islamic Saudi Academy here in the Metro DC area. Turns out the kids call in the threats themselves from time to time to get out of school for the day. Lets pray, Insha’Allah, that all of the kids remain safe and healthy
Re(2): A hoax
wow I was in st.chris for 10 years but never heard that! They must have kept it hush hush. Security is pretty good at st.chris though.
A hoax
But unlike the usual events, the papers are carrying front-page stories that the event was a hoax and they also had pictures of sniffer dogs etc scouring the school. This is a good development. Now that should be translated to the TV and radio to keep people informed. We can start this process by closing down BRTC completely and allowing private investors to open radio and TV channels.
Re: A hoax
It’s good to see that the school is being open an honest with the parents and students especially. It is also relief to know that the school did the right thing and took the nessesary precautions.
You mentioned the securtity at St. Chris, I always though it was good: barbed wire, guards, CPR ID Required to get in etc.
Re(1): A hoax
Yeah, St Chris has had all that extra security ever since a recent graduate (at the time, 5 or 6 years ago) came to school and beat up a student in the bogs because of some grudge over a girl. So then they started requiring special permission for any visitors. Before that anyone could walk without any problems.
And click here for some photos of the scene at Bayan school yesterday. Nothing too exciting though.

Re(2): A hoax
I didn’t hear about that one! I thought the security really started to get “tough” after 9-11 and a lot of parents were concerned about safety.
I suppose as long as they have decent security it doesnt matter why!

Bayan School is the preeminent private bilingual national school in the Kingdom of Bahrain, as well as one of the top learning communities in the Gulf Region. The secondary school prides itself on the quality of our educational program. We offer a bilingual, college preparatory program leading toward both a high school diploma recognized by the Ministry of Education and the International Baccalaureate Diploma program recognized internationally for the quality of the graduates from this program.
The secondary school strives to provide our students with a quality program that stretches across a broad curriculum and provides opportunities for a depth of study through the IB Program. Our purpose is to provide our students with a multi-cultural global perspective in many areas while preserving the tenets of Islamic traditions and values.
In addition to our academic program, BBS offers a variety of co-curricular activities designed to promote an appreciation for the cultural, physical, intellectual, and social aspects of the person. Our students are provided with opportunities to participate in service programs through the Roots and Shoots Club and CAS in the IB Program. The GLOBE Program provides our students an opportunity to not only increase their environmental awareness, but to also actively take part in promoting a healthier global environment. Opportunities to promote cultural awareness and growth are provided through the Drama and Theater Arts programs. Both our Arabic and English Journalism programs promote studentsΓΖΓΒ’ΓΒ’Γ’β¬Ε‘ΓΒ¬ΓΒ’Γ’β¬ΕΎΓΒ’ intellectual curiosity as well as their creative talents through the production of the Arabic Magazine, the English Bayan Beam Newspaper, and the yearbook. The visual arts program offers students opportunities to develop their artistic creativity through traditional media as well as through computer graphic design and our newly formed Art Club.
The BBS provides our students with activities designed to promote lifetime fitness and an appreciation for the physical well being of the individual as well physical education and athletic program as the cooperation and teamwork necessary to be successful in competitive athletics. For the second year we will be sending a team to Cairo to participate in the CAC Screaming Eagles International Track and Field competition in April. In addition our students compete in tennis, table tennis, cross country and other individual sports. BBS is very proud to have had two of our students represent the Kingdom of Bahrain in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece as swimmers.
Our students not only excel on the athletic field, but in other competition as well. We are the returning TradeQuest champions and we will be participating in both the The Hague International Model United Nations (MUN) and Bahrain Model United Nations again this year. The faculty of the secondary school strives to encourage our students to stretch themselves through other activities including Debate Club, Writing Lab sponsored by our English Department, participation in the NESA Math League and other activities.
The secondary school is made up of two divisions, the Middle School and the High School. Our developing Middle School program encourages the students to explore their world through organized activities such as the Exploratory Program as well as through their academic program. Both of the divisions encourage the students to take an active part in the school governance through the Student Councils for both schools. Students learn the Democratic process through the election of Student Government Officers each year as well as class representatives. This is a valuable learning experience for our students.
The entire staff at BBS encourages our students to become self-directed, motivated, lifelong learners, capable of stretching themselves in a variety of venues. [b]i love bayan school, its teh best school on this earth i think its amazing and im such a nerd. i love girls.-Abdulrahman Al Shafei
Re: Bomb threat at Bahrain Bayan School
No, actually bayan students are tottaly the oppisite of what most of you are saying, they study very hard, have very high motivations, and they pursue their goals.
I don’t expect anyone to do that in Bayan School, they are tremendously smart kids, and they all have been raysed with responsible parents. I think only 0.5 percent of the kids are irresponsible or maybe less.
But one thing i know we all agree on is that who ever did the bomb threat is a very dumb, idiot, bastard, that should really be ashamed of themselves, and think about what they did.

3azoOoz..
The second year I was at Bahrain School, the concertina wire went up. That was also the year we had (my count) six bomb threats (up from zero the year before) — all of which were hoaxes, and most of which perpetrated by students of friends of students. Without putting too fine a point on it, there were some kids at the school who were very impressed with who they were and knew that they could break most rules with impunity. If memory serves, at least two of these incidents originated from these children of wealth and autocratic power.
I had the singular displeasure of attending high school in the United States when the Columbine Massacre happened, when the school board decided that the best way to eliminate the risk of gunplay involved banning trenchcoats (Aside: Ive never seen a fight at a Goth club). Lets just say I am a nonconformist under the the best of circumstances; had I known the words to “California Uber Alles” I would have been singing them under my breath for most of the week, as most of the parents and some of the students freaked out.
I guess the point is that it is very easy to see boogeymen under every trenchcoat, but (in the post-9/11 era) its now a felony to phone in a terrorist threat, and there is a fairly hefty civil penalty associated with it as well. It sounds like a certain segment of upper crust Bahraini society needs to realize that they are no longer above the law, and I think a BD10,000 fine might help. Y’all had caller ID when I was there; I hardly think that its bending over backwards to figure out who calls in these threats.
Wouldnt it be amazing there was a another bomb threat 2 days before I posted this.It was in Bahrain School. we waited 2 hours outside . And the Police didnt come, the army came Patrolling the school, the students were told to turn off there cell-phones in case someone would “call” the bomb witch that would detnote it. K-9’s were sent sniff the school or go Through anything. We had to leave our backpackes in the school so homework and tests tommorow were cancled. no one was allowed to go in the school so we had to go to the back gate with about 5 army officers walking with us to the busses and cars. Then one dog acted starnge with the busses so they had to take the buses aprt in search for bombs and found none Then they sent our parents a e-mail saying it was a drill!!!
Another bomb threat today :ninja:
another bomb threat in bayan skool today. hehehe!!!
This is not silly, but very dangerous. Whoever is behind these hoaxes should be reprimanded. At the very best s/he is interfering with school days.
Sadly, the last time this happened there were no suspects nor was anyone caught (I used to be a student at this school and I was a student when this incident occurred the first time). The school should take precautions but also should warn the students and investigate the issue as it’s most likely a student who have done it. As far as I remember, there was nothing really done other than the normal procedures by the police.
However, I have also heard that there was a water problem in the school and thats why it’s closed today, but it’s probably just a rumor as there were some police cars located by the gate of the school this morning.
When i called the school to ask what was happening they said:
Our Electricity box just blew up!
um okay!’:getlost:
It is possible that they are just trying to cover the threat up…in case its a prank.
bayan student here, another bomb threat
i asked A teacher, he said it was a bomb threat
however, when we got to the school, they told us something was going on
oh well
Another Bayan School Student here,

you mean you not only can read that stuff but understand it? damn, I’m worried!
well hi for yor information.. im a student at bayan school.. the bomb is the second in bayan school.. it wasnt true it was made by a student which the skool dont really no who!!
I had the pleasure of being born in the gap year between the generation that went to “school,” and those that went to “skool.” So consider me a translator of sorts.
I find that the easiest way to understand it is usually to bang my head several times against a hard surface, then quickly stare at the words, eventually they come out somewhat coherent.
AH! That’s a neat trick! Lemme try….
damn THAT hurt, but you’re right, I cna mkea sence fo thme nwo!
People we should do something bout the bomb threats they might seem fun but wht if one day they are true andd we all die, wht will happen then, were to young to die, we have a life to live lets nott let a bomb take thiss all away, we have too meany reasons to stay alive
THERE YOU GO! The more you bang throughout your life the easier it gets!
haha. you’re funny. all of you.
we’re students from bahrain bayan school. we think the bomb threat was really stupid, it’s already been done before.
it might have been funny once, but common. it’s getting old. Grow up and stop screwing with our senior year.
:).
3rd bomb threat at bayan, apr 30, 2007
correction: apr 29, 2007
In fact, it was yesterday π
see post 52
i still can’t see how this is funny or pleasant in any way.
im in bayan school the bomb threat is now a part of our every day life this is the 3rd time it happens and we dnt want to be dead bodys on the ground of our home school :cwy: :cwy: im seriouse the government should take this case further and tell bahrain about this and dnt lie.
I was a student at Bahrain school a few years ago. we thought it was fun when a bomb threat was called in and we were given the rest of the day off but what you don’t understand are the consequences behind it.
Many of the students are about to sit their IB exams and calling in bomb threats could jeopardize their futures. Bomb threats are not a joke, the amount of money the Bahraini police spend just to inspect the school is too much to be thrown away for the students who just want a day off. Furthermore a student was caught at Bahrain school for making the threats in 2002 and was expelled from the school. No other private schools in the country or universities will except a student with something like that on their record. I call for the severe punishment of the person making these threats because they have not only the put students and teacherΓΒ’Γ’β¬ÒβΒ’s safety but also peopleΓΒ’Γ’β¬ÒβΒ’s futures.
wallah, its embarrassing and it is bad for our schools reputation. On top of that , the work we missed we must make up, so that means more workload. This Bomb threat fad is getting old , and is a huge waste of essential time, and benifits of students and other poeple
People u might think thts its nicve and tht we miss skool and everything butt its not really tht fun, plusss just like wht # 58 said, its bad for the reputation and the work tht we missed out we will bee either finishing them during summer oo skool will be extended for couple of days maybe weeks, cause of the things we lost, plusss people are taking the bomb threat as a joke, its not funny anymore the first 2 times we laughed but now its getting old its pathetic
Another Bomb threat Today…
Its the Second one this Week . 4 th time in 3 yrs !
bs Its Driving us Crzy
yeah okay now im gettin pretty sick of bomb threats although i dont want it to end but if they wana do bomb threats it shud be every once in a while. it will be like tht story of the wolf where tht guy says WOLF WOLF n then they run out n hes not there many times he pranked him sayin wolf til he said it again n they didnt blv wen it was real π wat if there really is a bomb n the principle wil get SICK of it?!
honestly .. its gettin stupid n lame.. make one laaaaater but thanx cuz i needed time for my ba7th !:P
To those of you who are happy about this u should be ashamed of urselves this is nt something u should be proud of ..i hope that if this is a student they get caught and severley get punished by the skool and the police..this is no joke its a serious crime…whoevr thinks that this is an opportunity to kick bck and relax at home is an idiot …the students are the ones suffering nt the school so ur doing no good…nt 2 mention that we will eventually get to come 2 skool on weekends whether u like it or not….and i suggest that people stop spread rumours as these bomb threats are NOT REAL! so dont go on spreading bull. and to the girls who said that she wants to come 2 bayan skool becuz of the bomb threats im nt sure that u will get in with an IQ like THAT! ..this is a skool that has people who wanna learn and don’t appreciate these juvenile acts…bottom line these bomb threats were nvr found n now its getting pretty outrageous n TOTATLLY PATHETIC….
ANGRY STUDENT!
this is seriously becoming annoying
bomb threat spread to ikns and bahrain school as well
this is so annoyin! seriously, we have our final Ib exams and this just distracts us:) fortunately, the exams are stil on because the bomb threat was false. (we want to get this over with )
people please wait until we finish our exams.
thnx
Actually, what they should do if they catch anyone making a bomb threat is to expell the student. Expulsions here happen for such things (and even for plagiarism as well).
Bomb threats .
The person/persons that do such things should be punished as if it is a terrorist act. To theaten children ( or adults in such a way) Let the government punish them according to the rules of terrorist act and sentence them accordingly. Also those that know of a person that did/do these things should be punished if they did not inform authorities.
My personal opinion: I hope the people that do these things get a fatal stoke this very minute.
this is a Joke, there is no such thing as a bomb in bayan school, like 3 times in 1 week isnt that enough, who ever did this is cuz he or she does not want to do the ib exams.
this is a Joke, there is no such thing as a bomb in bayan school, like 3 times in 1 week isnt that enough, who ever did this is cuz he or she does not want to do the ib exams.

Seventh bomb hoaxer held
MANAMA: The seventh student bomb hoaxer has been arrested and remanded in custody for seven days, said Chief Public Prosecutor Osama Al Asfoor.
The 19-year-old student of a technology institute admitted calling Ibn Khuldoon School from a coldstore in Muharraq after his friend requested him to call the school and confirm that the threatening e-mail his friend had sent the night before was genuine.

i love bayan baaabyyyy!! 4 bomb threats and goin!!!
shood at 3 time bomb threatster be allowd bak to skool?
what you say whn it hpns?
In the beginning of this blog you mentioned that Al Jazeera stated that a bomb was found and defused, The above claims are all false seeing as how I, a bayan student have been informed of no such occurence, this bomb threat was the first of many pranks conducted, in the academic year of 2006-2007 we recieved three bomb threats, all of which were dealt with by the administration in the most appropriate manner. In all of the situations the students who conducted the bomb threat were identified and were penalized. I would hope that you would correct the above comments seeing as how they are misleading and demeaning to the school’s reputation.
These bomb threats are getting ridiculous. This has been the second incident this year.
Firstly, bomb threats are a waste of all our precious time. Secondly, bomb threats screw up our deadlines?
Whoever is sending in these bomb threats should think twice. He will be expelled from whatever institute he is attending and jailed.
Just wait..
You’re right, it is getting quite tiring and completely irresponsible. They need to make an example of the twerps who perpetrate it so that people won’t succumb to this stupidity.
I’ve just spoken to an irate parent who said that apart from anything else, it wasn’t fun to battle the traffic to get to school only to battle it again to take the kids back home!
I think our school needs to invest in a method to make sure that anyone who sends a bomb threat is caught.
It would help put a stop to this unnecessary waste of time.
