I wish to offer my heartfelt condolences to not only the Roman Catholics for the death of Pope John Paul II, but to every peace loving person who recognises the huge effect that the Pope has had over events in the world, and for championing human rights and peace throughout the world, crossing borders and religions.
May he rest in peace.

CFL ALERT: ASK YOUR REPRESENTATIVES TO HONOR THE CALL OF POPE JOHN PAUL II FOR PEACE AND FREEDOM FOR THE PALESTINIANS: Pope John Paul II was a staunch supporter of Palestinian self determination. He was a consistent defender of Palestinian human rights and repeatedly called on Israelis and the United States alike to recognize the dignity and humanity of Palestinians under occupation.
In 2000 the Pope visited the Dehaisheh refugee camp in the Palestinian territories, during that visit he said:
“I express all my happiness at being here today. How can I fail to pray that the divine gift of peace will become more and more a reality for all who live in this land, uniquely marked by God’s intentions? Peace for the Palestinian people! Peace for all peoples of the region! No one can ignore how much the Palestinian people have had to suffer in recent decades. Your torment is before the eyes of the world, and it has gone on too long.â€?
“The Holy See has always recognized that the Palestinian people have the natural right to a homeland, and the right to be able to live in peace and tranquility with the other peoples of this area. In the international forum, my predecessors and I have repeatedly claimed that there would be no end to the sad conflict in the Holy Land without stable guarantees for the rights of all the peoples involved, on the basis of international law and the relevant United Nations resolutions and declarations.
“Today and always the Palestinian people are in my prayers to the One who holds the destiny of the world in his hands. May the Most High God enlighten, sustain and guide in the path of peace the whole Palestinian people.
TALKING POINTS:
*Ask your representative to honor the memory of John Paul II by standing up for Palestinian human rights and speaking out against the continued theft of land from Palestinian Muslims and Christians in Palestine.
* Ask your representatives to demand that Israel stop the indiscriminate slaughter of innocent Palestinian men, women and children. Demand that Israel stop building it’s apartheid wall which is cutting Palestinians off from their crops and livelihood.
*Ask your representatives to demand that Israel stop denying travel permits to Palestinians seeking medical care in neighboring Arab countries. It is neither humane nor civilized to prevent cancer patients from traveling from their homes to hospitals to seek treatment.

Condolences
I’ve been writing a lot about Pope John Paul in another forum for a few days. All I can say is the world has lost a charismatic, autocratic, intellectual (fluent in 7 languages) and a peaceful man who cherished people of all religions, not just Roman Catholics. It’s amazin how he went to 129 countries and flew over half a million miles, basically that equals circling the earth 27 times. What made me love this pope even more is when he forgave face to face the Turkish guy who tried to assassinate him, few people in history would do that. Also, when he kisses the ground everytime he lands from a plane, very touching move as it indicates that this is also my home.
I can go on and on writing about the pope, but in the end, all I can say is the world will miss an important religious figure, who not only strived for world peace and inter-religious dialogue, but was probably the only real authority in the last 26 years. RIP Karol Jozef Wojtyla.

I agree Mahmood. The Pope was a truly great man. He was a man who supported all people of faiths. Who can forget him kissing The Qur’an? RIP.
