Friday’s Vlog

Regulars would have recognised that I have a “pattern” for Fridays, the main trait of which is the regular visit to Manazel, and Hanan has a violen lesson in the morning. Beyond that it’s pottering around the garden, playing with power tools and occassionally vegging out in front of the TV.

Today was not any exception, other than visiting Delmon Pottery to pick up a few things for the garden. As I had my video camera with me (yes I found it in a plastic bag, together with its power supply, placed nicely behind my study’s door, on top of a lot of other junk that I haven’t got the gumption to sort and permanently store! :)) and as the owner of the pottery was available, I did an impromptu interview with him.

The interview with Abdulnabi Abdulraheem was in Arabic of course, however, utlising the power of Avid’s Xpress Pro, I subtitled the clip.

This one is approximately 7 minutes long and is about 15.6MB in size. It’s again in Quicktime, compressed in MPEG-4 format and should be viewable without problems. If you do encounter some, let me know.

I hope you enjoy it.

… more interesting than CNN International!

M ~ I’m really starting to enjoy the vlogs. They’re getting better and better! The sub-titles look great … love the violin lesson, just so much fun to “listen and look in” on a life and family on the other side of the world!

I’m so glad you found your video camera. The picture quality of this one is really good. Especially liked the pottery shop segment with the captions. More, more of this. And more of your interesting Bahranian life and beautiful family. 🙂

You’re so butch, Mahmood. It was a bit worrying when you were in the girly bit of the DIY store looking at the scented candles, but you quickly redeemed yourself for butchkind by moving on to let your digicam vision caress the sleek flanks of the deluxe barbecues and linger lovingly on their come-hither griddles.

The interview with the potter was fascinating, too.

This interview was great Mahmood. It would also be good if you could get some footage of the artisans at work next time you’re there.

    Re: Friday’s Vlog

I’m afraid that would destroy the vlogs as you won’t be able to see much! But let me put up a poll to see how people connect to the internet and if the response is levered toward the dial-up connections, I’ll do something about it.

Manazel – my favourite shop!! I think I can understand what women must feel when they go into shoe shops – you suddenly find deep seated needs you never knew existied.

    Mahmood,

Your vlogs are making me miss the Middle East like mad. Don’t stop. I’m absolutely loving them. Please can we have more? Ordinary day to day stuff when you go travelling/shopping/work is fine. “Boring” to you may be “interesting” for us.

As others have commented, your vlogs give people a fantastic insight into life in another country. I’m lucky enough to have visited many countries on many continents in the past, but now I’m somewhat trapped by work and unable to travel much even within my own country, so watching your vlogs is like a little holiday for me, expecially since two places that are close to my heart are the Middle East (in general), and Southern Africa.

And your vlogs remind me of both those places where I had do much fun and enjoyed myself so much.

    Faris.
