Coming to the office this morning I had to take a circuitous route to get to it because the police blocked the normal access which goes by the Prime Minister’s Court. Going around I noticed a large number of fully kitted riot police with their shields, guns and tear gas launchers.
All this was because of a declaration by the “Unemployed Committee” to stage a “demonstration marathon” for 48 hours in front of the PM’s court. Their application for approval to demonstrate with the Manama Police was turned down, hence in a legal sense, the planned demo is illegal.
In this morning’s papers the main headlines are all to do with unemployment and how the king is urging everyone not to politicise the unemployment problem. I hope they listen.
Regardless, I’ve got the onion chopped and ready!

Ah, you’re too young to remember!
In our old neighbourhood (Fireej Al-Hammam) whenever we here of a demo our mothers immediately chopped onions, put them into handkerchiefs or any other kind of cloth, and we would breath through them to filter out the tear gas.
So to answer your question, the salad I would have prepared is the “tear gas salad!”
I don’t hear anything out of the ordinary out of my office so they must have called off the demo?

Thats right Blogfather. I am in the building opposite the PM’s court and it took me about an hour to get to the office once I had convinced the Baluchistani riot man that I did indeed intend to go to my office. They were there all day but nothiing happened, save a tailback on government road.
