Gardening Friday!

Gardening Friday, originally uploaded by malyousif.

With nothing to do on a Friday afternoon with me all alone with the dogs at home, I did what every man does, went out in my PJs and did some gardening playing with my POWER TOOLS!

That was about 3 or 4 hours of pure bliss and away from the computer and the news. Me, me power toys, and my dogs, strimming all the edges and the paths in the garden! My back is shot, but I thoroughly enjoyed it…

Now pump up the volume, and indulge your senses! 😉

Hey Mahmoud! Congrats! I just saw this blog on MSNBC in the US…and they quoted you about the London attacks.

How on earth did you manage to keep your dogs quiet while you were using those powertools? The moment I flick the switch on my powerdrill, a Dobermann Dimwit Choir strikes up and doesn’t stop until the last drilling is drilled.

    Gardening Friday!

Didn’t know Bahrain had some lush greenery. Well, actually, I didn’t think it had any, LOL.

    Looks like a pretty garden.

    I pen them in! 😀

I installed two gates and a fence around their kennel! Otherwise, then it’s exactly as you describe, they won’t leave me get on with the work. I let them out again once I’m done.

I was never a gardener, and I don’t regard myself as one (yet!) but, with plenty of water (and a huge bill) you can get just about anything to grow in Bahrain!

It is a pretty garden, but it is very very young and we’re learning as we go along…

I never did the garden thing either until I moved to England. The house we bought had been neglected for years. We came in and fixed it up. I spent dozens of hours in the garden, replanted the grass, put in dozens of new bushes, flowers and trees.

The English are famous for their gardens. When the neighbors saw how much work I put into the garden several of them offered to help and when it was completely done I had made friends for life.

I dont get the time to do most of the stuff in the garden now so I have a service that does it, mores the pity.

Looks like you had a grand day Mahmood.

    Re: Gardening Friday!

You know something, that’s a shame. I discovered that yesterday, we all owe it to ourselves not to be consumed with work, blogs, internet, news, etc. Even if you don’t have a garden, take care of a Bonsai (Mark, tell us how and start a website for goodness sake!) or go out cycling, go to the gym, go for a walk, do anything that would take you away for even an hour from this mundane existance. The world CAN and DOES revolve without our continuous involvement.

What I do now on a daily basis almost is get back from work as close as I can to closing time, go to the gym for 1 hour or less, walk the dogs for 30 minutes, get back and do some gardening, pottering around, weeding, shower, dinner, then come online for a couple of hours before hitting the sack.

    How’s that for a plan?

This plan is very good when you are bachelor only, let the family come and I will be happy if you do half of this.

Sounds good. Pre-baby I would get up at 5 am, go to work and work until 4-5 pm. I would go to the gym for one hour, go home and spend the rest of the evening with the family, go to bed around 11pm or midnight. Weekends I would attend functions at the mosque with family and friends, visit friends and my in laws.

Post baby is different, although I am not sure how different yet as I have yet to go back to work. Right now I sleep off and on during the day, change diapers, feed the baby, do laundry, do the cooking, and try to give my wife as much of a break as I can. Mr. Mom is my life at the moment. I am interested to see how this fits into my working life.

    Re(2): Gardening Friday!

I have no idea.. that’s not my department!

I get to know that it’s time to throw them out (my house clothes in general) when I get screems of “they’re disgusting” and “they’ve got holes don’t you feel the wind on your butthcheeks” kind of cries, otherwise they’re good enough for me to wear! Mind you, the more you wear these clothes the more comfortable they get!

Sometimes I go look for them and couldn’t find them in their usual places… that’s when I know that they have been thrown out. That, pisses me off!

Beyond taking some bonsai related classes or having private lessons by me if anyone is interested in learning bonsai I suggest reading a book by Colin Lewis titled ”Step by Step Guide to growing and Displaying Bonsai” It is the best single source available for learning the art.

If anyone has bonsai questions you can always email me at Bonsaimarks(a)gmail.com

    Gardening Friday!

your garden looks nice, which makes a change from the shithole and dump that is bahrain

  17. mahmood

    Re: Gardening Friday!

Why is Bahrain a “shithole and a dump”? and what are you comparing it to? I agree that there is a lot which must be done to elevate Bahrain to where we all aspire it to be, and there are priorities to be scheduled and enacted – such as the economy which is first and foremost such priority, but a “shithole and a dump” it hardly is.

With all the “bad news” which is happening all around us in the world today, and your comment, you inspire me to go out and search for some GOOD news for a change!

We can start by reading this to set the right mood.
