MECCA, Saudi Arabia (Reuters) – Some of Islam’s historic sites in Mecca, possibly including a home of the Prophet Mohammad, are under threat from Saudi real estate developers and Wahhabi Muslims who view them as promoting idolatry.
Sami Angawi, an expert on the region’s Islamic architecture, said 1,400-year-old buildings from the early Islamic period risk being demolished to make way for high rise towers for Muslims flocking to perform the annual pilgrimage to Islam’s holiest city.
“We are witnessing now the last few moments of the history of Mecca,” Angawi told Reuters. “Its layers of history are being bulldozed for a parking lot,” he added.

I’m really too angry at the moment to even start to comment on what these fuckwads are doing not only to our religion, but our history and heritage as well.

This is appalling. I’m absolutely astounded, and would have thought that the Saudi government, at least, would have quickly put a stop to any moves to ‘develop’ (so-called) areas of historical and religious importance.
I hope and pray that these ignorant ‘developers’ are quickly denied any planning permission.
What would be next, I wonder? Condos in Saint Peter’s? A shopping mall in Hagia Sophia?
If it’s any consolation, developers are every bit as greedy here in the UK and over in the States (my home country).
My thoughts and prayers will be with those who try to halt this supposed ‘development’.

Yeah, it sucks. I posted about this on my blog a few days ago. They have destroyed hundreds of sites in Arabia. I read a different article yesturday that talked about the destruction of what some people consider was the tomb of the mother of the Prophet(SAW) Although the claim seems to be a bit dubious, the spot was destroyed anyway.
As a Sunni I didnt like a lot that happened there, from a religious perspective, but if I dont like it I dont have to be a part of it. It would seem some Shi’a, Sufis and others used the place as sort of a shrine, in comparison sort of with the Catholic devotion to the virgin Mary. Not something I agree with, but hey, Islam is a huge tent, we should be able to accept those things that we dont agree with.
Once again a casual disregard to EVERYONE that is so characteristic of the Saudi government and religious authorities.

The first step to control of a populace is to destroy its past.
Shatter the idols in the Ka’ba.
Snuff the Zoroastrian flames.
Destroy the Tibetan Monestaries.
Wreck the historical places of Islam.
You see, if you destroy the historical records, then history becomes re-writable.
Biblical Archaeology has shown that many presuppositions about the life and times of Jesus are not cognizant with the Bible, and certainly has caused a re-thinking of how the Gospels were written.
But Biblical Archaeology is ONLY possible because of lucky finds. Many original Churches and Synagogues were destroyed by Muslims, Christians and whoever else over the intervening centuries.
Saudi Arabia destroys monuments and historical things because it fears Islamic History. Would Koranic Archaeology prove that the Koran is NOT a product of God?
…Maybe!
If so, then the Saudis -HAVE- to destroy the evidence. For to face the evidence would cause one edifice after another to fall down around their Wahabbi heads.
And we can’t have that, right? Have to rule the world.
And the only way to do that is to re-write history to make OUR truths real. And noone can dispute them because we CRUSHED the evidence like fascist slugs.
