Civilised

OF COURSE WE ARE CIVILISED IN BAHRAIN. We have laws against this sort of thing! but they’re never applied, or even worse, they’re selectively applied.

Personally though, I have absolutely no qualms of taking the offender’s picture, number plate or any identifying information and immediately calling the police in the hope that it will not happen again.

But then what do you expect from a country that condones moving PEOPLE in such a fashion? Throw them on the back of a truck and as long as it’s got a plank of wood above their heads it’s fine with the police or traffic department or the ministry of labour or whoever is responsible for this.

Thanks to SBG for bringing this despicable practice to our attention.

    We do have the BSPCA (Bahrain Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), but they mostly deal with stray and abandoned pets. Even then I don’t think they’re effective enough to deal with problems like this that are very widespread.

    They just need to be educated towards taking better care of things.

    It is trully amazing Mahmood I agree with you. Every morning I drive from Zinj to Riffa and see the poor bastards cramed into the back of uncovered trucks like cattle, what is really funny is that it is very much against the law here but the police seem to pay no notice for the simple fact they are asians. I stoped at a gas station one morning and could not believe my eyes there was a oncovered six wheeler with about 15 guys in the back stopping to get gas and it was pouring rain the guys were all pakistanis and they were cold and shaking horrible. I lost it I got out of my jeep and yanked the indian driver out of the car and brung him to the back of the truck and showed him these poor guys, and told him I would have him arrested for this in five minutes if he did not shelter these guys. He called his Bahraini boss who showed up and laid into him once he found out I worked for the Goverment (good acting I must say) and proceeded to bring a covered truck. The pakastani guys were totally bewildered and confused they could not understand why and american guy would do this for them, all I said to them is what I say to all is we are all human beings regardless of race our religon. An eduacted guy in the back of the truck talked with me for five minutes and asked me why a non-muslim would treat a muslim with more respect and dignity than his muslim boss, I said we are all human and when I see you guys all I see is people who have been abused that is it and we are all people no better no worse.

    what i dont understand is where these guys get the message that moslems will always treat moslems better than non moslems??? is this what they are taught in the religion or in the culture??

    Exactly… they’re caught off guard when a non-muslim is nice to them?

    I too find that response a bit disturbing. Are our cultures that estranged from each other? Some people really do believe it’s “us against them”… we are all containerized and stereotyped. That you for your random act of kindness… the world needs more of those.

    Mahmood;

    Regarding the animals, is there an animal protection society in Bahrain? If you complain to them, they might have more influence on those in power. This is truly abominable. I can see some of those cages slipping off and getting run over by another car.

    Jasra;

    I agree that it’s very strange these Pakistanis would be surprised at being treated well by a non-Muslim. I wonder if their society taught them otherwise.
