Welcome to the inside world of Bahrain. In the land of golden smiles, Bahraini women are strong and taking the country into a whole new dimension. Hear what it is like to live in a country driven by ‘democracy’ in the face of changes.

Another blogger from Bahrain! Great and welcome. Although she’s been blogging for a couple of months now, she’s been very very quiet in advertising her presence!

One Dangerous Lady
That is one dangerous lady. According to her blog she’s filing a libel case against someone who criticised her in a newsaper. Bahrain’s libel laws means that if the defendent loses the case they’ll be sent to prison. If she’s prepared to silence criticism through trying to get people thrown in prison that tells me everything I need to know about where she’s coming from. It also makes the reference to ‘democracy’ in her mission statement look bizarre if this is her reaction to criticism.
Advice with this blog has to be – caution, handle with care.

FINALLY..
new blood..
Re: Voice of a Bahraini Woman
Whether the criticism is justified or not is irrelevant. The point is that this blogger’s responding to criticism by trying to get the source thrown in prison.
What’s the difference between this blogger’s reaction to criticism and the government threatening Ali Abdulemam with prison for his views? Or for that matter the Sharia judges trying to get Ghada Jamsheer put in prison for hers?

thats an unfair statement to say that she is dangerous just because she is going to court.
the real question is to ask what is the nature of the criticism? was it fair and justitifed? or did it cause irreparable damage?

Re(1): Voice of a Bahraini Woman
i disagree …
the question to ask is whether th criticism fit the definition of libel?
if criticism is fair, then thats freedom of speech, and her attempt to throw someone in jail is agasint freedom of speech.
if the criticism is unfair and damaging, (or whatever the legal definition of libel is), then her attempt to throw the criticizer in jail as accountability for his/her [mis]use of freedom of speech is entirely fair.

JJ,
Criticism that is damaging is still free speech and people should not be thrown into jail for it. There are penalties for libel in the West, but prison isn’t one of them.
Libel is very difficult to prove. You must show malicious intent, a tall order. Few cases are brought to the courts and feven ewer win.
