Running clothes design

I don’t think I should give up my day job, but it’s a very honest attempt, my contribution if you like, to design appropriate sportswear which might gain the approval of our beloved MP Hamad Al-Muhannadi who strenuously objects to our Maryam Jamal’s (nee Zenebech Tola) after winning gold in the 3000 meter distance for Bahrain in Oslo.

Here’s what she looks like at the moment:

You will agree that this is highly irregular dress for a Bahraini lady, and as the right honourable MP suggested, he doesn’t give a damn about her culture, her religion, her sports norms, or for her lifting Bahrain’s name in athletics. The kingdom’s Constitution states that our laws are based on Shari’a hence they should be applied to everyone. Conveniently forgetting of course – as might be expected of the president of the Legal & Legislative Committee in parliament – that the referred to article, Article 2, merely states that the Shari’a is the principal, but not the only source of legislation. How in his mind he is not cognisant of the fact and he holds such a high position in parliament boggles the mind. Anywaaaay, that’s not the issue of course.

So, in an attempt to diffuse the situation, and I am quite heartened as well that Ms. Jamal is studying Islam at the moment and there is every chance that she will convert, let me show you my all new Mahmood’s Den approved running clothes which Ms. Jamal should consider wearing, I’ll even pay for it to be made for her if she likes.

Quite fetching don’t you think? I think that Mr. Al-Muhannadi should approve this dress, after all the next step for her to be integrated completely into her adoptive country is to be part of his personal Women Education Society, a picture of a lesson in progress follows:

Thank you Ms. Jamal for your time, and for your wins, and for lifting the name of these fair isles into domains we have hitherto not conquered.

Part of the ethnic Oromo group, the single largest group in the country but who only play a minority role in politics, Jamal and her husband, Tareq Yaqoob – the former Mnashu Taye – fled Ethiopia for personal and political reasons in 2002, and have based in Lausanne since. I personally don’t have a problem with that at all. It is the norm in sports circles where you find athletes are offered not only citizenship but inordinate amounts of money to represent a country or a brand. What I do have a problem with however is the forced change of a person’s name!

Mp who make stupid comment like this and waste public money should be debited for the wasted time and money of the public.

What happend to issues like training of the youth. Guiding them and encouraging them rather than encouraging them to be small minded, petty and wasting time of the lenght of women’s clothes and how to masturbate in front of mannequins that titilate you.

Recently in India a woman was raped by her father-in-law. The decision of the muslim board was final and binding in that she had to be divorced by her husband, marry her father-in-law and consider her husband as her son. Is this what Sharia teaches us?

Poor woman is stupid for coming to Bahrain in the first place. If she is as good as she is, she could go to Canada, Australia, any european country and run for them.

Bahrainis don’t want to be winners. They want to be a bunch of whining losers!

Whos going to support her? Nobody. So whats the point?

    Protest against India rape fatwa

A ruling by a Muslim seminary in India that a woman allegedly raped by her father-in law must separate from her husband has been met with protests.

The religious edict or fatwa was issued by the Darul-Uloom Deoband, a powerful Islamic school which was established more than 150 years ago.

The Deoband school promote a radical brand of Islam which is said to have inspired the Taleban in Afghanistan.

But other Muslim bodies in India have opposed its latest ruling……..

On a more positive note the Women in Najaf Have staged a protest and I assume lived to tell about it. I will never understand why men think so little of women in your part of the world, who do they think gave them life. Of course I know you and yours do not fall into this group.

50 percent or more women in the world and these men discount them for anything except making more men babies. I get so angry, there is a beautiful young woman living just down the street from me and her husband is a shit, Don’t worry the girls in the neighborhood will be telling her whats what before long. Oh she happens to be Muslim, do not think Muslim men have a cornor on the stupid market, we have lots of them in all colors and god us help shapes, I find it funny when they strut down the street, generally it is time to walk the Great Dane. True. The shocking thing in the third picture was not a man beating a woman, it is that the other women just stood by and let him carry on with it! Had I been one of them I would have at least threw a rock at his noggin and then beat the shit out of him.

    Re(3): Running clothes design

THIS is the problem with any fucked up asshole that memorises the Qur’an, grow a beard and wear a turban and then proclaim himself now as an “imam” with a literal hold on life and death on “his” subject. These pricks who made this so called “fatwa” or more appropriately in my book “faswa” (fart in Arabic!) should be strung up from ceiling fans, put the rotation on minimal and let them spin for a few days while the women of the village go at their private parts with nail clippers.

    aaaaaaaarrrrgggghhhhh

Thank GOD the Shi’a cannot do this, for any fatwas they HAVE to go to a central authority, rather than any fucked up drunk who has suddenly “seen the light,” repented and become a self declared imam and people would actually pray behind him now and seek his advice and faswas.

And anyway, isn’t the penalty for adultery is stoning? Why the fuck is that man still alive? Shouldn’t he be put in a whole and stoned? I’ll volunteer quite happily to split his skull with a couple of bricks then have at him with a 2×4.

    Re: Running clothes design

That is SO sad isn’t it?

I don’t think that ANYONE in Bahrain has promoted Bahrain as far as sports is concerned as Shaikh Fawaz, the Minister of Youth and Sports. He’s a dynamic person and is moving mountains to get Bahrain noticed, this little spick of an island is now being noticed in the sports worlds directly because of his efforts. And he is one of the very few ministers who actually doesn’t give a damn about sectarian issues. If you can run and can win for Bahrain, he’ll support you, regardless of how black, white, green, blue or torquoise you are.

This lethergy, that Bahrain “is not worth it” will have to change, and we don’t have to wait on the kinds of Fawaz and the Crown Prince to make it happen. For God’s sake let’s support our athletes, they are the real heros, people like Maryam and also Tariq Al-Fursani who just came back with a silver world medal from Germany where he participated in the World Bodybuilding Championship.

We should at least print a few hundred bumper stickers and distribute those for free…

    Mahmood,

You know, I am your typical normal open minded Bahraini who knows Allah without having the need of an armed gear such as a long beard, short thoub and the rest of your typical stereotype muslim extremist (thanks to the media), yet I was so offended with the way you have pictured the female runner in the second pic you’ve made. If you read the Quran and know your religion well (which I know you do), will come up with a conclusion that Islam offer equal rights to both men and women (and if you are not a Muslim and you are reading this, please do your homework first before replying). As far as sport is concerned, a good example would be Ruqaya Al Ghasra, who notched up Bahrain’s first gold medal in the women’s 100-meter run at the 13th Arab Athletics Championship at Amman International Stadium in 2003, and guess what, (she was still wearing her hijab) see the following links:

If you still think that Islam is banning women from sport, just do a quick Google search on “Women and Iran” (not that I am in love with Iran or anything like that)

P.S. Mahmood, shame on you for posting that Afghani man hitting Afghani women, you know well that this is not Islam and such stuff does not take place in BAHRAIN.

    Re: Running clothes design

BuNawaf welcome and thanks for the comment. I really appreciate it.

Can you please tell me if Ruqayya were to be asked if she can run like Maryam and be guaranteed no interference by the religious authorities, would she refuse? I bet she wouldn’t as if she likes to win, wearing clothes as those worn by Maryam would ENSURE that she would shave a substantial amount of her running times that she might win more.

I don’t feel ashamed at all by posting the picture of a man beating women, and I don’t give a damn if it doesn’t happen in Bahrain in that particular way, it is the very same ideology that condones beating women to bring them to the right path as condoned by Islam that you are trying to use to dictate what women should wear. And if you would just go to court, or ask the police about the daily occurances of women and children being abused and beaten in Bahrain and the perpetrators go untouched, not even a slap on the wrist, what’s the difference between the picture and our current state of affairs here?

I did the Google search, but modified it to be relevant to the concept of this article, rather than as wide as you suggested, here are my findings:

    1. “women sports iran” resulted in 631,000 hits, while
    2. “women abuse iran” resulted in 1,140,000 hits.

If you have any other bright ideas please let’s have them…

BuNawaf, with all due respect, it is you who should be ashamed. Not I.

    BuNawaf …

“P.S. Mahmood, shame on you for posting that Afghani man hitting Afghani women, you know well that this is not Islam and such stuff does not take place in BAHRAIN.”

Hmm .. Whilst I agree that this is not Islam – I beg to disagree on two points that you have made. One is that this does not happen in Bahrain. And two, that Islam (Sharia) protects it from happeneing.

I know quite a few Bahraini women who are beaten up by their men. They have tried to go to the courts and ask for divorce on the grounds of abuse, and because Shaira does NOT offer equal rights to men and women (based on witnesses and the like), these women were refused. Or, when granted, custody and child support was an issue.

So – bottom line – being a Moslem and a Bahraini is no protection against violence. And neither Bahraini or Islamic laws, to date, really offer any protection to women. We don’t even have a shelter for abused women!

And, if you want proof that domestic violence exists in Bahrain – go ask any of your friends who work in any of the hospitals. they will tell you horror stories. And, if you want to know the extent of the abuse? Go and find out what they do to children. (And the perpetuators of abuse in this case are both men and women – being moslem doesn’t make a damn difference).

The issue here is that people who are abused, tend to abuse – unless they break the pattern. The first way to do it is actually call it by its name and recognize that it exists …

    Re: Running clothes design

I have to go with Mahmoud on this one…why are those other women just standing around and not doing something about this!!!
With at least 50% of the world women, why are we not beating the living hell out of men who try to beat us (or withholding sex, which would probably work just as well).

I was watching Fox News in the U.S. today about the Iraqi Constitution group, and the newscaster was talking about women now being in a worse position in Iraq than they were under Saddam (what with Sharia law), and I was thinking that it’s up to those women to see that they aren’t in a worse position. There are women on that Constitutional committee, I thought, and even if they aren’t in the majority, there are probably several women at home behind each man on that committee (what with 1-4 wives, plus daughters, aunts, mother, etc.). And a woman can make a man’s life living hell at home when she isn’t happy about the way things are!

So I figure that if women’s lives are that miserable in the Middle East, it has to be because too many of those women are satisfied (or at least willing to accept) those conditions???? I know I would be kicking, screaming, fighting a man who treated me that crummily, and either his life would be miserable, or I’d be dead!
