Frances and I are just back from watching An Unfinished Life in which Robert Redford shone, so did Morgan Freeman and as much as I hate to admit it, even Jennifer Lopez wasn’t bad.
It was on at the Saar Cinema and there were hardly anyone in there when we sat with our popcorn, except for other middle-aged couples (no, we’re YOUNGER dammit!) then a few minutes into the film a whole bevy of teenage girls flooded the place. Thankfully they kept their giggles to the minimum and I didn’t hear even a single phone-call being answered! What the hell is happening to Bahrain cinema-goers? We must have gone at a “good night,” regardless, it was an enjoyable experience.
One guy was their with his wife and I think his mother-in-law and as he was bitching about Lopez (as he hates her, well I don’t go that far but he has my sympathy) to which the mother-in-law laid into him for, as she thought that she’s an okay girl. I wasn’t going into that particular debate.
We navigated our way out through the bevy who congregated at the door of the theatre, then out only to be faced by triple the amount of teenage boys loitering outside!
It was a good atmosphere though (though some smoke did smell funny at it wafted across our path) and people were enjoying themselves, just as we have.
It was one of those days today… you know the one, it was a good day.

You seem in a contemplative/reflective mood…. im glad someone is blogging about ‘good’ days rather than ‘bad’ ones for once 😉
Happy anniversary….3ogbal il 3omur killa as they say

I refuse to watch anything with Lopez in it, although Redford and Freeman are in this so maybe that could be its saving grace. A Life Less Ordinary was pretty good, you should try to catch Dogma if you haven’t, it’s one of my all time faves, as well as Amelie, Catch Me if You Can, Donnie Darko, Requiem for a Dream and Mulholland Drive… ok so I like to watch films.. but they’re all really good 😀
3idkum Mubarak too, I told mum maybe we should make a tha7iya and throw it in the Thames, she wasn’t so impressed with my idea for some reason.. hehe

Mahmood;
Are American movies there shown in English or are they dubbed? I recall you saying once that most Bahrainis spoke some English.

Re: An Unfinished Life
Nothing is dubbed, though all movies are subtitled in Arabic. If in a “foreign” language, then the subtitles are in English and Arabic.

I like that funny smell. I am glad that you have it in Bahrain as well and am glad that you enjoyed the evening.

So its not just me… its year end/new year nostalgic period, so we’re tempted to reflect and give reviews. I hope all of us get many more of those days. There was a very good movie with a similar name.. “a life less ordinary” I believe.. Cameron Diaz and Ewan Mcgregor.. I strongly encourage you to watch it.
