If I remember correctly, the World Cup was shown on a lot of channels, some channels had some matches and others had different matches, either way, there was a lot of choice.. How come this time I can ONLY view it on ART??? Anybody out there found any luck with English commentary?? Internet or TV?

I mean I would surely get a subscription if for example it was broadcast on HD .. although interestingly enough there is this ‘W.Cup9-HD’ channel I see in my channel listing, I can hear the sound but no video 🙁

By they way.. just a tip for MTC users out there, just paid 36BD (and that’s it, once off) to see the ART channels (the catch is to sign-up for a 1 year contract with MTC, which was no problem)

Syukran for the links. Very useful. However, I think the time zone for UK right now is + 2, not + 3 hours.

I am looking for English commentary, too – my apartment has only ART.

I tried to check BBC.com, but the online broadcasts are only for UK residents.

I’m ticked off with this as well, when ART had the F1 franchise they did provide the ITV English feed for the audio stream, I had hoped that they would do the same for the WC. No chance unfortunately.

Does anyone know if the South African sports channels are transmitting this? Anyone with a “dream box” can shed a light on this?

  5. Ehsan

You can’t get it on any other channels on Arabsat/Nilesat because ART bought the rights until 2014… They provide English commentary on W.Cup3 which is the English feed.

Unfortunately their picture quality is very low as they are cropping the image and passing it through what seems to be a cheap analog transmitter. I’m watching on the Swiss TSI2 which is a digital widescreen feed direct from the stadium, and getting the English audio from ART’s W.Cup3 on Radio Bahrain 101.

The South African channels are showing it, and you need a special dish for that along with a dreambox/illegal subscription (BD 3/month). The channels are called Supersports and are part of the Multichoice bouquets. I haven’t checked the quality though.

Actually, you can get english comms. search the nilesat again and get all the art w.cup channels, the one called w.cup 3 is the one with english comms.

    Hope this helps

I did, thanks to Ehsan’s comment and I now can enjoy all games with English commentary, but unfortunately no graphics! No time display etc, which is another component that is missing and could have been easily inserted. That’s a brainfart on ART’s side (and I could have supplied the equipment they need to do just that! ;))

Did you see the Trinnies go at the Swedes yesterday? And the Swedes fighting back? If Bahrain was there instead of the Trinnies, we would have had at least a dozen goals against us with the current squad that we have!

I’m actually glad that we didn’t make it. Especially after seeing Iran go down in flames (3:1) lit by Mexico as well…

  9. Ingrid

WOOHOO…the Dutch just won over Serbia-Montenegro…I just saw the video of the ‘crazy Dutch commentator’ who’s going bonkers over the last second goal that Dennis Bergkamp scored for the Dutch..my goodness..who knew I could get so emotional over soccer!! (snif snif)
Did you see the game by any chance Mahmoud? I’ll have to see if it was on here in the US..
Ingrid, still being enough ‘orange’ in her heart…

Ingrid, unfortunately not. I watched the Silverstonbe F1 race this afternoon, but I must confess that I actaully fell asleep at lap 30 of 60 and woke up on lap 58, but could bother to sit up so I watched Alonso cross the line followed by Schumi.

I did watch the 2nd half of the Iran/Mexico match which was nice, but nothing to write home about…

brilliant, sounds very much like Arabic commentary… they compete against each other for the longest shout of GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLL

and variations of that longest word of the Arabic language!

  12. Football Gal

Alhamdulillah, my apartment has the English commentary. It’s an ART channel too.

How are feelings in Bahrain towards the Saudi team? Much Khaleeji brotherhood in evidence?
