Amna’s results

My daughter Amna received her GSCE results today and she did brilliantly!

Amna’s results, originally uploaded by malyousif.

The twit did pretty poorly in her GCSE exams; she just got 1x A*, 4x As, 1x B, and 3 (yes THREE) Cs.

When asked how the hell did she manage all of that, and especially an A in Arabic, she said, and I quote: “I’ve been very very lucky!”

Now I have to go and buy her a new car.

Yeah sure!

Well done Amna, I hope your cousins have the same gene”iu”s. lots of love, Gillian

  3. Aliandra

Does she go to an english-speaking school? I see all the papers are written in English.

  4. Ibn

    Ahh, my IGCSE’s.

The “English” exam of the GSCE’s make the American SAT’s look like a coloring book.

    🙂

Aliandra, yes she does. She goes St. Christopher’s School in Bahrain and they follow a complete British system of education.

    Ibn, yes so right!

Gillian, her pressy might be a quick trip to see her cousins, be prepared for heavy duty rocking at your house 😉

    Thanks all.

What a beautiful and intelligent girl. Congratulations Mahmood! What a cool and proud papa you are.

Congratulations to both father and daughter! Not only is Amna smart but, thankfully for her, it appears from the photo she has inherited her looks from her mother.

In the spirit of being helpful may I offer a suggestion for the car she should ask her father for:

Anything less and I think it shows an inadequate appreciation of just how hard she has worked. Look on the bright side Mahmood – if you behave yourself you may be allowed to borrow it from time to time.

    Once again – congratulations!

    Congratulations Amna!

She’s more than welcome over here Mahmood! Oh, and Amna, if you’re coming over can you get 5 khubiz with some labna and za3tar as well? 😉

  9. Publia

Poor Amna. And to think my daughters complained when I put all their grades up on the refrigerator in my kitchen. Too bad your blog wasn’t around then! What a way to keep those grades up!

Congratulations to Amna, I’m sure her success was very well deserved. What are her favourite subjects, and her ambitions for the future?

Note to Mahmood- get her a nice safe little hatchback like the Skoda Fabia, which has been proven to be the safest of it’s kind.

Note to Arif: Have you bought your sister a card and present yet? (Hint- box of pretty hankies….)

    Best wished to all

    Meggie

Luay got 1 A, 4 B’s, 5 C’s and a D in … Regligious Studies .. how can you do that badly in Religious Studies? He didn’t work a jot and I expected worse. Pressed into giving him £100 by his father (why?), he said “Mmm, not bad for two hours work” which sums it up completely.

    Well done Amna!

Oh come on Mahmood, isn’t that the most content smile you ever saw?

By the way, my friend’s parent’s had a very creative way of impressing him and his siblings about the importance of good grades.

For every grade they brought home that was a ‘C’ or less, they were taken to the bathroom and look in the mirror while saying “Would you like fries with that?”

  13. mahmood

Well, okay, I suppose I have to give the twit something for the her effort then. Huge pride itself in your daughter and her achievements don’t get cashed in a bank I guess, so I’ll have to get her something tangible…

    like a canary maybe?!

  14. mahmood

Oh, the 3 Cs she got was for the sciences which she hates, 2 papers. The A* was for English Lit, the other As were for business studies and stuff like that. Can’t remember what the B was for…

  15. Rami

Thank god she takes up after her mom (i’ve seen the other side of the family…..).
Amy: NAG NAG NAG NAG learn from your mom, Get the car, the cash the jewels. Don’t give in. The guy loves you and can’t believe one of his offsprings actually finished high school.
    Congracts
    Rami

Well done! Those results sheets and brown envelope take me back! Holy cow…i did my GCSE’s 5 years ago!! Where does the time go!

That is one piece of advise i would give to current student….enjoy you’r time at school and make the most of it!! It’ll be over before you know it, and your life will never be the same…

    Whats next…a-levels, uni…life!

  18. Lorena

Good Girl!! Alf mabrook Amna! and you 2 Mahmood I bet you are a very very contet and Porud Dady !! 🙂

GCSEs are for people who cant finish high school…she should have done A levels…and the SAT II in literarture makes the whole GCSE program look like schooling for the mentally retarded…even the SAT verbal and writing parts are harder than GCSEs…

  20. mahmood

Not sure where you got your information but you sure need to relook at your sources. The order of business is SATs then GCSEs then A-Levels. That’s what Amna will be doing next year: A-Levels.

mahmood, if you get her a vehicle, I highly recommend a pick-up truck. You don’t want your daughter to the be one with the “cool” car that all her friends can fit in. Too many distractions lead to accidents. Beautiful Amna will be safer, plus you can borrow it for necessary landscaping adventures.
