St Christopher’s School GCSE Art Exhibition 2007, originally uploaded by malyousif.
Panorama of one of the rooms used to display student’s artwork, some of which is very creative, others very daring and a few combine both facets.
Well worth visiting, which is by appointment only for the next two weeks. You need to contact the school to be able to view the exhibit from 8am to 2pm.
Both my daughters Amna and Hanan participated in this one.

looks very creative… GCSE Art is the only subject that still haunts me, i dropped it half-way through thinking all the effort put into the portfolio will crowd out the easier subjects of maths and science which i’d only need to revise two weeks before!
Bringing up the orginal panorama,
some great work there. One of them struck my eye, pardon the pun, was one of an eye with the eyelid in shades of fushias greens, and blues and the lower lid of yellow and purple. The iris of the eye looked like a black opal doublet. then an overlay effect that looks like broken glass. Interesting effect. I took from it a thought, a feeling, of the world in everyone eyes is colored and soemtimes our world ges shattered.
I like that one very much.
Another one I liked was a profile of a girl/woman that looked like a tear was about to be shed on her face. The art looked like it was yellowed on purpose as if it were aged. The expression on her face was bittersweet.
I’d love to have either of them on my wall for my new home in Finland.
sorry, I didn’t mean to ramble.
Just me, unfortunately that is exactly why both girls decided to drop it for the A-levels. In fact Amna did not do the GCSE Art but chose to do the AS and she had interminable trouble with the amount of work required – both girls said that it is the quantity of work produced rather than the quality. It was taking far too much time from them that I don’t think they had time to really study any other subject.
So I fully supported them to drop it. They can pick it up on their own in their future if they choose, but as far as I am concerned, I am really happy that it is over.
Pamela, hey, no worries! I liked quite a few of the displays there, I particularly liked the two video installations; the ideas were very good indeed and if whoever has done them chooses to go into that field I think they will excel.
Some of the traditional art pieces were very good too, but I must admit that nothing jumped out at me in that department, but then, I’m spoilt – living all my life with an Artist who has now left all of us with tremendous memories and wondrous pieces of art, somehow makes everything else paler.
Extremely interesting (and impressive) exhibition. That’s the only thing I excelled at – GCSE Art. It all went downhill academically from there – which is why I ended up in IT.
Seems like only yesterday we were drawing water melons in arts class with my teacher in 2nd grade. I just had a deja vu of myself in the class. School truly is the best time of a humans life. Funny saying that, it took my mother a minimum of 30mins every morning to wake me up, now all i can do is look back at it and smile.
Thanks Mahmood for bringing back some good memories. Some really great talent those young men & women possess. Every painting was unique, and creative, and had something special about it. Wish only the picture was a lot sharper and clearer.
Do you know a website which might post individual pictures of the paintings?
I really miss school. Why did we have to grow up 😥
You can call the school and they’ll send you the exhibition’s book. Well worth having.
These shots were with my mobile – yes, the mobile! – and stitched using a program to produce the pano.
You mean you took more than one picture, and then stitched it together? For a moment there, i almost thought your mobile could take 9383 x 1443 resolution pictures.
Any idea how much the book is going to cost?
A very good angle of which you took the picture from Mahmood.
Thanks again 😀
No idea! I paid for a bunch and got them, but don’t know how much they cost. Hang on… apparenty we paid BD12 and got 6. Whether the price is different for non-participating parents, I have no idea.
Get in contact with them. Their site is at http://www.st-chris.net
Hey Mahmood,
Thanks for taking this photo. It really takes me back! I always liked going to the art exhibition, right from year 7 when we had to actually talk about the presentaionts until year 12 and 13 when we were doing our best to avoid exam study! It’s amazing how much work goes into the exhibition!
It’s always a great show and well worth a visit!
Chris
