To prepare you for Eid in 6 weeks’ time, I thought I’d tell you about Chopin. No, not that musician who died quite a while ago, but the Vodka! Why? Because Vodka is the preferred beverage in Bahrain simply because it “doesn’t smell” so you can always tell your mother when you roll into the house legless that you’re just so tired from work and are just going to bed! And if she has the presence of mind to breathalyse you, then you’re in the clear! It’s colourlessness also is highly valued, and as it is classified as a “neutral” drink, you can mix it with any drink and you’ll be happy, put the bloody thing in Patcha soup and none will be the wiser! Of course if you do do that, then you are too sick and you need serious psychiatric help, let alone my fervent advice to immediately head to the American Mission Hospital and join Alcoholics Anonymous. If there are any charges then I’ll pay!
Anyway, an intriguing article about vodka came my way via Saviour Machine caught my eye, and as I just finished a bunch of quotations, faxes and emails, I roamed, as one usually does in cyberspace (flippin’ hate that word!) which referred to Alex Abramovich’s review of 11 vodkas in the States with the help of some friends and a huge two-day hangover!
The winner in their scientific survey? Chopin! A potato-based vodka no less, you know, the kind that you wouldn’t touch normally because it’s too cheap, and preferring grain-based dragon-breath instead?
Alas, I just checked with both BMMI and Gulf Cellar and both don’t carry it. Damn. This Eid will be less than happy this time ’round.
How ironic to pick up this review from a Kuwaiti site, huh?
Now get back to work!

Am i wrong, or is Vodka just almost pure ethanol?
I’m just asking because I have a recipe for Liver Pate which requires a dash of Grand Marnier. Now that stuff is pricey, and I’m only making pate!
I suspect I could get by with a dash of Vodka, with some orange juice and zest added to it. In fact, I would bet my pinny on it.
Meggie.
Chopin
lol I always knew Kuwaiti blogs are inspiring
But my vote would go for “Grey Goose”.. Best Vodca ever
