Alex Salde doesn’t agree with my “type” of Islam and how I choose to raise my children, he says in an email he sent me:
What type of muslim are you?
You raise your children in such a non islamic manner. Do they even know about islam? Do you guys even pray? Do your wife & daughters know the word ‘hijab’? Big islamic names but you live like christians. I’ve converted to Islam and i cant stand seeing muslim families imitating christians & living such non islamic lifestyles. Continue what you are doing and you will find you & your family in jahannam, khalidina fi ha abadan. Wa salaam…….
alexsalde@hotmail.com
I wasn’t aware that there are different “types” of muslims. There is only one typified by his/her acceptance that there is no God but Allah and that Mohammed (pbuh) is his prophet. Every other consideration is subsidiary to this declaration.
There is no difference between one muslim and another but for their good deeds. Something that you don’t seem to have at all, as you accuse not only myself but my family of being “un-muslim” by your very narrow interpretation. For someone that has just “converted” you are going about Islam in a completely wrong way. Islam is tolerance. Islam is not pointing fingers and saying that you are better than the others. Islam is not accusing people of wrong-doings and Islam is certainly not acting as a judge and jury, nor is it that if anyone lives differently than how you yourself interpret Islam that they will go to hell.
The really surprising thing Alex is that I didn’t think you would have that narrow mentality where you come from. I thought that Brampton, Ontario is a little bit more liberal or at least more accepting of differences in true Canadian fashion. That is how we saw and enjoyed Canada just a few months ago. Obviously we are mistaken.
In any case Alex. What is it to you how we choose to live? And how we worship? And how we raise our children? In the two days that you have converted to this great religion you automatically assume that you know it better than we do, the ones who have been born into it? You just assume that because of your conversion that you rank higher than we are and take it upon yourself to give completely unwanted and unwarranted advice?
Well let me give you some of my advice: Islam doesn’t want nor need you. Go back to whatever you came from and stay there. Islam will be much richer without some fundamentalist like you propagating hatred and intolerance.
And another thing…if he’s so gung-ho about his conversion to Islam, why the heck did he keep the name “Alex”? Seems like a very Western and UN-Islamic name to me…
Now now. His Islamic name is obviously (insert first name of choice) al Exsalde.

Do you suppose Alex’s mom dropped him on his head when he was little? Maybe a Christian girl dumped him, and he just couldn’t take the rejection. Branch Davidian, maybe. Anyway, it looks like he forgot to read How to Win Friends and Influence People so somebody better send him a copy.

Right on, Mahmood. Alex is a prime example of the kind of idiot who’s running around in Fallujah these days. This is the problem with religious fundamentalism, be it Islamic, Christian, Hindu, what have you. My guess is that Alex secretly pines to be squatting with Osama bin Ladin in his Afghani cave, but that he down’t have the balls to actually go there because that would mean giving up his safe, comfortable Canadian lifestyle. After all, trading Canadian bacon, cheap medicine and satellite TV for lice, dysentery and dirt isn’t exactly an attractive prospect, is it?
And another thing…if he’s so gung-ho about his conversion to Islam, why the heck did he keep the name “Alex”? Seems like a very Western and UN-Islamic name to me…

I assume this runs something along the lines like “Your going to burn in hell?” My father always had great advice for dealing with people like this… “DON’T LET THE BASTARDS GET YOU DOWN.” I say this is a good candidate for the TWITBTHIFD society. Then what the hell do I know?
Anyway fresh cut Christmas Trees are out for sale now here. Shall I send you one? (ps…the trees are from Canada!!!)

I am shocked, shocked by the prejudice in this group toward poor Alex, who is simply trying to elevate you all to a purer, higher Islam. You should be encouraging him, not rejecting him.
In fact, I find his religious message so compelling that I think it is too big for the likes of Canada. Alex should take his message on the road to combine his missionary efforts with other like-minded folks. Stop talking, Al, baby, and start acting. Make the world more Islamic!
The hot spot in the world for Alex’s brand of Islamic activism is Fallujah. It’s like one big Islamic radical disco, if Wahhabis did discos. Alex, pack your bags and catch that jet for Jordan today. You still have time to smuggle yourself across the border to the Big Fallujah jamboree. I hear big things are happenning there. You don’t want to be late for The Big Party.
Paradise awaits you in Fallujah, Alex.
Hurry!

The Last Tango in Paris
So, is Arafat dead? Or is he not? And who is the next leader of the Palestinians??
Re: The Last Tango in Paris
Wow Jasra, you’re on a roll tonight. You’ve written some 6 or 7 posts in the past hour or so. I expect Steve will reply to each sentence with a 10,000 word essay. Hmmm….
What type of Muslim am I? Alex Salde wants to know…
Sounds to me like Alex has a problem with Christianity, not Islam …
People turn to an absolute when they are confused. The self hatred cannot be dealt with by converting and adopting a different, new, absolute set of rules and regulations. Peaceful Muslimah would never spew the kind of hatred and judgement that Alex is spouting off. Beacuse Peaceful Muslimah is more comfortable with herself and her relationship with God – and with all mankind. Alex sounds like some repressed Westerner who is having a hard time dealing with the pressures of his day and age and has converted because he welcomes the thought of someone telling what to do, what to think, and how to live. It saves him the problem of thinking for himself.
How the hell can Alex turn to someone, spend energy writing this bull in an email to someone across the world and make judgements over how he lives?!! Even if Alex thinks that Mahmood is totally off, he should follow the prophet when he said, Lakum deenakum wa liya deen. You have your religion and I have mine.
Also, Alex should realize that Moslems do not differentiate between the people of the book – which includes Christians and Jews. Basically Monotheists. And the only differentiation that does apply is that of piety. For God to decide. Not Alex.
Alex should get a life. And he should also deal with his own issues that will not be resolved through conversion. Alex should also realize that like Christianity, we built alot of our own religion based on pagan rituals. The Kaabah today is as ‘religiously pure’ as the concept of Christmas/Easter. The Kaabah was a place where we workshiped idols. Christmas and Easter are products of the winter solictice.
Wake up Alex and get rid of this concept of absolutes. The hatred in you that stems from fear will destroy you from the inside. And it will destroy all that is around you.
And for god’s sake, leave Mahmood and us well alone.
What type of Muslim am I? Alex Salde wants to know…
First, let me state that while I am a Muslim…I am far from being “perfect” in the eyes of Allah. But we were created as humans in his likeness…not in his exactness. So, while I feel the need to state some facts in Islam, I realize that I too am growing in my religion. And that is one of the beauties of Islam…I am ALLOWED to make mistakes and NOT be a perfect person. We are to take Islam in pieces…not swallow it down whole. Lest we choke. Islam teaches that we are all growing in our knowledge and capabilites…and that not ONE of us is expected to be God-like.
Allah’s/God’s grace does not fall only on those who are the “strictest” in their faith or learning their faith…anymore than the sun shines only on those that are extremists and fundamentalists in their faith.
In general terms and Islamic terms, good character is recommended for all people. Characteristics and Manners (Adhab) such as humility, honesty, mercy, tenderness, forgiveness, patience, and generosity are only a few of the many that Islam teaches in the Koran and sunna. Take a look.
To single out one person to be the subject of ridicule in his Faith is, not only slanderous/libel, it is NOT the way of a true Muslim. The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said “Avoid suspicion, for suspicion is the greatest lie. Do not be inquisitive about one another, or spy on one another. Do not outbid one another with a view to raising the price. Do not feel jealous and do not hold grudges against one another. Do not backbite, but be the servants of Allah like brothers and sisters amongst yourselves” (Bukhari & Muslim) Not one person is allowed in Islam to say to another that they are better than he/she.
The Prophet (pbuh) used to say, “The best of you are those who have the best manners”. (Bukhari & Muslim) So, I ask you, Alex…did you know about that?
Islam is and has always been a religion that teaches peace and mercy. Those that veer away from the true teachings and are preaching hate and ignorance are only causing those that know little about the true Islam to run in the opposite direction like wild banchees. It’s a damned shame that there are Muslims that misinterpret Islam and see hatred and intolerance…and a REAL shame on those that teach these lies. There is an old saying (not in Islam): You catch more flies with sugar than vinegar. And Alex…you had a LOT of vinegar on your breath.
Tolerance in religion or in ANY form is one of the highest forms of culture and intelligence in society…so that makes me question Alex’s knowledge about the truth in Islam and the society in which he grew up.
Please, forgive me if I sounded too “preachy”…but since Alex takes such pride in “his” form of Islam, I wanted to educate him on what his Islam is really about.

is this a language?
Strav, sorry I’m showing my age here but I can’t make head nor tails of your posts – it seems to me that I have to get a degree in “texting” or “smsing” or whatever you call it before I would feel that I am capable of decifering your style of writing!
It’s just like that Arabic/Latin script with all the numbers taking over from Arabic letters. I can’t make head nor tails of that too. Is there a dictionary or someone to list all the letters and their corresponding values in Arabic?
Many thanks.
Alternately, you could just start writing like “normal” people while you’re here! 😉
Re(2): What type of Muslim am I? Alex Salde wants to know…
actually, that was my mistake. it appears that this is the gentleman’s sister.
Re(3): What type of Muslim am I? Alex Salde wants to know…
I read the post about the sister. Still….. One must admit F1 Pit Babes are nice to look at anyway……Perhaps Alex might enjoy them as well…..??????

He’s back, with TWO emails!
The coward Alex has come back to me with not one, but TWO emails this morning to start me off on the right foot:
and a few minutes later:
Alex, as in the words of the great Mahmood Al-Yousif, if you hadn’t already taken the hint: bugger off, find a hole or a rock and crawl in, you will probably find things in there much more to your liking and your interpretation of Islam.
As you couldn’t get it through your head that I am not interested in what you’re trying to sell, I have officially consigned your emails to the junk filter, you might as well join it in real life, that is if you have any.
What type of Muslim am I? Alex Salde wants to know…
Tell Alex to be a man and post on the site .. if he wants to speak to the Moslems, we can all take him on ..
What type of Muslim am I? Alex Salde wants to know…
Oh … and yes, tell him that there aint no Kuffar people in Canada. Most of the Canadians are Christians, no? People of the book …
Mahmood, maybe we can teach him how to read Arabic and buy him a dictionary so he really understand what being a Kaffir means? What do you think?
Re(2): The Last Tango in Paris
Chan’ad ..
I was on a roll. I still am. I think I am just frustrated at the amount of stupidity and shortsightedness in this world of ours. So, I am venting on this blog. I apologize for my rants .. I shall try and tone them down. After I finish with Moslem Alex in Canada .. of course.
And Steve has been very tempered in his reaction .. I think he is now busy taking on his new enemy .. the American Liberals .. 😉
Much love to all ..
Re: What type of Muslim am I? Alex Salde wants to know…
Don’t waste your breath or money on this. I distinctly feel that this is a troll more than anything else because there is no intelligence there to respond to.
S/He did register on the site under the name of abayb2c (a babe to see!) which isn’t Islamic at all now is it? 😉
Let’s just leave him alone, the more attention he gets the more he’ll get on his horsey.
Re: What type of Muslim am I? Alex Salde wants to know…
Knock it off Steve. he believes you!
Re(3): The Last Tango in Paris
don’t worry about ranting, you can NEVER rant enough! Good for the soul.
I feel a BBQ coming up during the Eid holidays and you are officially invited!
Re(1): What type of Muslim am I? Alex Salde wants to know…
The self promoting tags “A babe to see!” etc, usually describe someone that fell out of the ugly tree, hitting every branch on the way down.
Beauty is skin deep, but ugly goes right to the f#ing bone!!
Re(3): The Last Tango in Paris
Please don’t stop ranting! You are a rant of sanity in a mad world.

What are the chances that he even has a head?

well for sure he’s never had any, otherwise he would be a bit more chilled out! 😉

Re(3): The Last Tango in Paris
Jasra, no need to apologize. I was just making a comment. Rants are always fun!
Re(1): What type of Muslim am I? Alex Salde wants to know…
Good. He should heed my words and hurry to Fallujah today. We are assembling a team to deal with his complaints and others like his. They will resolve all his grievances.

Don’t worry Mahmood,
It’s not the age thing. I had trouble with it myself. So thanks Strav for straightening that out.
At one point, I was on his blog wondering if all the dot-dots were subliminal morse code; I made more sense out of that than the lava lamp subject-predicates.
Don’t mean to cramp on your style chiba, just trying to catch your substance!
Re(4): The Last Tango in Paris
Thanks guys .. nice to know that my rants are not that ‘rantful’!!
Boy am I looking forward to Eid .. I could use a good 10 solid uninterrupted hours of sleep …
Re: is this a language?
LOL 😀 mahmood….apparently it is a language….well i’ve just realized how i’ve gotten so drawn into writing in slang all the time…and yesterday a prof reading my posts just said “your punctuation sucks!” . Well of course it does becuase it isn’t proper sentences or grammar at all. But for the sake of humanity (and beacuase i don’t want people to be going through dictionaries to find out what the hell that weirdo is on about) i’ll type out my posts, starting right now,in proper, decent English 🙂
How does that sound? ;):D
PS. i hate txting & smsing…. take the easier way out with MMS 🙂
Re(1): is this a language?
Phew, what a releaf, a post from Strav that I can read!
Well done mate.
