Ban mannequin displays of lingerie!

Scantily-clad mannequins should be banned from lingerie shop windows, says a Muharraq councillor.

Modern mannequins look too real and are exciting young men, who crowd round the shop windows, says Majeed Karimi.

Male assistants should also be banned from lingerie shops, says Mr Karimi, chairman of Muharraq Municipal Council’s legislative, financial and administrative affairs committee.

Displaying mannequins clad in lingerie is against Islamic and social values, he said.

Good grief. I’ve heard some stupid comments from the “Hairy Brigade”, but this is just plain ridiculous. Do they really have nothing better to do? Who voted these people in? :dizzy:

Last year when my wife and I visited Bahrain and Dubai, I was very surprised to see them in shopping centers in both places. They were very tastefully done, beautiful designs. And we saw no one crowding around to gawk at them, not one male person at any time.

For us this was a very positive experience. My thought was that indeed, things are getting normal to a western standard. Again, very tastefully done, beautiful designs, and although we went by them many times with my wife, we have not seen any male gawkers.

I don’t mean to insult any of you readers, but this made a very positive impression on us. We were there for two weeks, went by several each day on the average, and I just cannot believe that they “are exciting young men, who crowd round the shop windows, says Majeed Karimi”.

Then there is the point that the world is getting smaller because of the many TV channels, some of which show a lot worse. Mr. Karimi, God tests us every day. Since time began. Isolating young men or women is not a good method for keeping them good Muslims. They simply have to learn to get used to it, and it seemed to us during our visit that they already have done that. These young Muslims are not stupid. Just keep them educated and give them the opportunity to make decisions every day about the good and not so good. That’s a very good part of maturing and getting ready to handle life better and better. God (Allah) gave all of us that opportunity since the beginning of time. So I see this as a positive thing, whereas sheltering young people and protecting them too much makes them ineffective when the time comes to be on their own.

    Respectfully,

    Vic

actually, that is the way things have always been here. it is only recently, post-democracy, that these retarded ideas have started to surface…

CWT, what I cannot understand is why we have not seen a single male gawker at the stores’ display during a two-week period, and why Mr. Karimi says that they “are exciting young men, who crowd around the shop windows”. We went by such stores several times every day on the average in both Bahrain and Dubai. It just seems to me that someone reported to him something that was not true or grossly exaggerated.

Such a high person in a political office should be very careful about that, and put up photos to prove both of his claims that many young men are gawking at the display window AND that they are excited. And he should not believe stories about sensitive issues that “advisors” tell him without proof. Otherwise HIS credibility suffers with too many people.

    Best regards,

    Vic
