Start writing your MP

I’ve just finished compiling all the MPs addresses, contact numbers, email addresses and the committees they are members of in the Address Book. Go find the contact details of your MP and start blitzing them with your letters. I suspect that the best way to contact them is through fax as I am not sure whether some of them have been trained to use a computer yet, let alone know what an email is.

Here is a list of the Parliamentary Electoral Districts where you will find where your block falls in what district.

Here are the official statistics of the 2002 Parliamentary Elections.

Congratulations on the letter writing campaign as it looks like the MPs are having serious second thoughts about the legislation on the right to peaceful protest – with Ahmed Barzad the MP who’s sponsoring the bill now claiming its nothing to do with him and is “unacceptable”.

Rather than doing what their supposed to be doing scrutinising the executive, the MPs are proving to be the best weather vein indicating which way the political wind is blowing. In today’s Tribune they’re coming out strongly in favour of the King saying that only Sheikh Hamad and MPs have the right to propose new laws while the “Prime Minister could submit draft laws to the deputies who could accept, amend or reject them.”

This after they were all set to pass the PM’s legislation, not just banning freedom of assembly but also gaoling members of parties who don’t support the 2002 amendments – as well as previously backing him 100% on the arrest of Al Khawaja.
